Page Nineteen WE LIGHTED THE TORCH or FREEDOM SCDPI-ICDMORES We thank God for the Torch of Freedom, the symbol that gave us courage and light to cheer us in the dark times during and after the Revolution. In 1776 the Declaration of Independence set the desire for freedom burning so brightly that the Old VVorld realized the light was more than just a candle burning in the new West. We felt the suffering of war, but inspired men of our time knew some must die in the struggle to obtain liberty, if generations to come were to enjoy the light of freedom. The voice of the Liberty Bell was loud and clear when it pro- claimed our well earned freedom' Next we assumed the responsibilit X. overning ourselves. After many successful attempts for a plan of the sages of that time drafted the constitution, which made the fl u W' much more stable and offered us many new liberties in the Bill ffffg f N Americans hold these truths and lib- erties dear-so dear that we .jgmgmini must keep those rights forever burning in the hearts of all , A , A v tiff!
