Tree Oration Our predecessors could hardly have chosen a more fitting token of tribute to their school than the gift of :1 tree. ln-r changed through the ages, trees have remained :1 source of pro- tection, beauty and inspiration to man. Starting from a movement which had its birth with the signing of the Armistice, memorial tree planting has been adopted by organizations throughout the l'nited States as a means by which they might express their tributes of respect, honor and reverence. Trees are expressive of the finest sentiments of man. Truly we may find tttongues in trees, hooks in running brooks. sermons in stones and good in everything? Trees have played their part in literature as well as in his- tory since the beginning of time. Shaded nooks have been for centuries the settings for poetry. One of the beauty spots of the world is the site of the tomb of Vergil, overlooking the Bay of Naples. This tomb marks the great poetls favorite retreat during his last, days. Here, surrounded by trees. he wrote his undying epics. The soothing shades of the ehns of Cambridge have left their influence upon the works of one of our own great poetseHenry lVadswurth Longfellow. An elm tree has been chosen to stand beside that of the February class. This above all other monuments seems most ap- propriate for the occasion. It is a tall, oval headed. compact tree, of stately beauty and towering grace. Its commanding beauty carries with it the perfect message of the reigning monarch. Bryant has spoken of the groves as Godk first temples. Surely as one gazes upon a tree, something of its solemn majesty and soothing peace is imparted to him. Our four years at Frankford have meant to all of us four years of beautiful associations. N0 monument could more ad- equately express the sentiment of the class than this beautiful embodiment of cherished memories. It shall keep alive and shall mcrease with its unfolding our appreciation for the finest id luls whlch we shall carry with us to our new stations of life. Mav thls elm, symbolie 0f the living spirit of F 'ankford, keep forever green the love of the Class of June, 1927, for its Alma Mater. Eight
