RE-E LI TME TS A happy ship means lots of re-enlistments. The half -dozen FOX crew members pictured on this page are only a fraction of those who actually took the big step during this cruise. It appears 3 safe to say that FOX is truly a happy ship. F l , , ' -... ,. . Half of the cruise book would be required to show all the dignitaries who visited FOX and talked with the crew. CINPACFLT, ADM. Clarey, was our first visitor. He came aboard to praise FOXMEN .3 - W' X for the job they were doing and to answer questions on developments in the Pacific Fleet. Next it was RADM Bagley, Ombudsman of the Navy, who came aboard to discuss new pro- grams and listen to suggestions and constructive criticism by crewmembers. Finally, SECNAV paid FOX a visit to praise the fine accomplish- ments of the crew. COMSEVENTHFLT, ADM Mack, and RADM Turner from OPNAV accom- panied Mr. Chafee on his tour. FOX was also visited by RADM Ferris, then commander of all Naval Air assets in WESTPAC, and RADM's Robinson and Bergan who were successive commanders of all Cruiser-Destroyer forces in WESTPAC. .nr '--rv -all .-. FLIGHT UART RS Flight Quarters was at least a once a day evolution during our line periods, many times it turned into very lengthy operations. As a result FOX flight crew personnel often put in long hours on station. Our secondary mission in the Gulf was SAR, so we were home to the HH-2 Clemintines and HH-3 Big Mothers of HC-7. But when a ship is at sea for thirty days, another kind of helo becomes more important to the crew, an HH-3 without SAR equipment known as the Log Helo which brought our mail. And on a few occasions we welcomed aboard a CH-46 Flying Banana bringing groceries from an AFS.
