The men of the division are responsible for clean- ing and painting the hull, main deck, and the lower portion of the superstructure. Coming into or leaving port, they handle all demanding physically. They are the backbone of the UNREP detail as they rig all the replenishment gear and tend all the lines. i The job of the deck seaman is not highly sought after, but rather a proving ground for new recruits. Every man starts here, and when he has shown he can meet the Navy's standards he may strike for a rate in some other division. First Division is run by BMCS Myron Peters and BMC John Stewart.
