' !,,,,,,,! ! - ,+-1 S' - fa!! 5 F' jf-'E-E M l 5-gf! - f ff CAPTAIN PAUL BOLAND, USN COMMANDING CDFFICER Captain Boland was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on Nlay 7, 1926. He received his commission as Ensign, USNR at Columbia University in 1945. He then served as First Lieutenant and Damage Control Officer aboard the USS H.F. BAUER lDlVl-26l. This was followed by tours as Executive Officer in the USS OSPREY lAlVlS-28laand the USS PEREGRINE lEAlVl-3731. After serving as Operations Officer in the USS IVIURRAY lDDE-5761, he attended the U.S. Navy Post Graduate School at IVlonterey, California, studying command communications. Upon completion he was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations as a Communications Officer for COIlllCRUDlV FOUR. He then attended the Armed Forces Staff College alter which he returned to destroyers serving as Executive Officer of USS BRIDGET lDE-1014l. Following this he served with the National Nlilitary Command System at Fort Ritchie, Nlaryland. He was awarded the Joint Services Commendation Nledal following his assignment with the National IVliIitary Command System. Captain Boland again returned to destroyers, assuming command of the guided missile destroyer, USS ROBISON lDDG-12l. He commanded ROBISON while assigned to the U.S. Seventh Fleet in support of United States efforts in Vietnam. For this service he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with combat V . Completing his tour in USS ROBISON in July of 1966, Captain Boland attended the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C. He was then assigned as the head of the Nlilitary Assistance Program on the staff of Commander U.S. lVliIitary Assistance Command, Thailand from September, 1967 to June, 1969. Captain Boland attended the University of Dayton, Notre Dame University, and holds a B.A. Degree from the George Washington University. He is married to the former Joan Schuett from Covington, Kentucky and has four children, Judy, Paul, Stephen, and Charles. F1
