The division is divided into five maior work centers, each headed by a senior petty officer with many years experience in his special field. The electricians maintain the ship's electrical distribution system, which supplies regular and emergency lighting, pro- vides power to the ship's electronic, weapons, communi- cations, navigation and ventilation systems. The men of the IC group are responsible for keeping the ship's direction and speed indicating equipment in proper working order, servicing ship's service and sound powered phones, and keeping the crew supplied with entertaining FLlCKS . The enginemen, although few in number, have a big job. In addition to servicing four boats, they keep the ship's two emergency generators and three emergency fire pumps in good working order and ready to go in the event an emergency ever arises. i Lt Wayne Hatch DAMAGE CONTROL ASS T Ens Sam Jones X ASS'T DCA The shipfitters and machinery repairmen are the artists of the division, often called on to design as well as fabricate anything from a gear for a vital pump to a new crew's washroom. Their more routine work includes maintenance and repairs to saltwater flushing and high pressure steam lines. The damage controlmenare always ready to meet an emergency. They keep the ship well supplied with emergency repair, firefighting, and NBC,defense equipment. A major part of their responsibility is the training of the crew in various phases of damage control.
