IQ Sasebo, Japan is a port town in Nagasaki per- fecture, Kyushu, Japan, and has a population of 273,484. Provided with a good natural harbor near the mouth of Omura Bay, Sasebo was a naval base from 1896 until the end of World War II. It was a small village until the restoration f186'8j, but expanded rapidly after the wars with China and Russia. The town was partially destroyed in World War II, but because of facilities which years of experience had perfected, Sasebo re- vived as a commercial ship building and fishing port. A '
