M FOREW RD Our school is a tiny town with its-own codes and standards of behavior. It has a mayor, the principal, to keep a close check on the school activities to be sure everything is runningsmoothly. His tovnm council is the faculty, who head their own departments, teaching their skills and knowledge to the masses of people. There are elections in our "town" in which some of our students compete. They may run for any number of offices in the various clubs and organizations. The student body, by means of the secret ballot, then elects those people whom they want to fill the offices. We have our own governing body, the student council. The council is respon- sible for keeping order in the school, which it does efficiently. So, we are a "town," In our school, we have our mayor and his associates. Our "town" is really a "town" within the town of Four Oaks--its activities inter- related with those of our community. He is responsible for keeping the machinery of the school rtmning smoothly. We can honestly say that we are privileged to have such a person to guide us. His helpfulness is shown continuallyiin varied, helpful ways. We can only try to show our love and gratefulness by dedicating this, the 1961 Acorn, to MR. H. J. BEEKER. 4 ker 22' fi 5 ,a Q, I? Simpson Johnston County Superintendent ADMINISTRATION In every town there must be an of- ficial of authority, usually a mayor. In our "town," our principal is the mayor. The principal must be an overseer of the school operations, revising and adding whole new systems where it is necessary. Without a wise principal, our school would hardly run as efficiently as it does. Assisting the principal are the high schoolprincipal, Mr. Worley Keene, and the county superintendent, Mr. E. S. Simpson. From time to time, these influ- ential men voice their suggestions and opinions on school matters. They are valuable in helping the principal make decisions. Sleepy eyes and weary feet char- acterized the leaders in the head departments. Often they had to work into the wee hours of the morning trying to beat a deadline. Miles and miles have been tramped out on long streets searching for ads to help finance the annual. The staff is similar to the town council, all working together to keep the project running smoothly. Although there is much hard work which must be done, the staff, nevertheless, gains a certain satisfaction in seeing the arduous pro- ject finished, and the new edition of your annual completed.
