CHOICES UF '76 The fall of 76 offered many choices - choices ranging from that of the national Presidency to that at the community level, the Huntington Beach redevelopment. The choice in the presidential party was that of the Ford-Dole or Carter-lvlondale. These choices were covered in many ways ranging from television debates to community rallies. This coverage helped bring out the diversities of each candidate. Ford paid a visit to FV for the enthusiastic crowd who waited for hours to catch a glimpse of the President. An estimated 30000 showed up at lvlile Square Park to greet the President. MGM students held a mock election where FVHS students had the chance to voice their opinions on the Presidential candidates. The outcome gave Ford an overwhelming victory. Choices were also made in the areas of the Senate. California incumbent F .- --. . Q.-..., . . lp 3 FORD S There is absolutely no doubt that Gerald Ford is the far better qualified candidate t for President. Armed with his excellent two year record and the dynamic Republican platform, Ford has shown himself far better prepared than Carter. The Democrat nomi- . nee offers us nothing except the usualg a muddled up platform with dozens of prom- ises he can't keep. Tunney was unseated to his surprise by 70 year old Hayakawa. New officials were chosen on the commu- nity level. Many of which would make decisions regarding such things as the redevelopment project of Huntington Beach. This is a project which includes a complete change in downtown Huntington Beach, with possibilities of highrise buildings and a total turn over of the present merchants. Relocation of the eld- erly also was a possibility. 1976 was also the year of Title 9 which referred to the bill of Equality Rights. This now means that girls and guys must be given equal treatment in school. This affected such areas as physi- cal education and eliminated such sexist groups as Girl's League. ?3IN's! CARTER Carter is by far the better presidential candidate, he is , able to offer us hope in the restoration of our faith in the American government. His successful governmental reorganization in his home state of Georgia offers us proof of his ability to govern and make good on cam- paign pledges. With Carter as President we will be at last able to have a government more open with its peo- ple, not hiding behind its big business backers. Carter's election is a must to the safeguarding of our country and America's return to greatness.
