Wherefore art thou, Romeo! We have all read these lines for ourselves in our Freshman English Classes, but this year students had a chance to see Shakespeare's immortal characters brought to life. Fountain Valley's Drama Department presented Romeo and Julietl' in the school's theater-in-the-round. The love of Romeo for Juliet and her love for him were portrayed dramatically against the background of their feuding families. The tragic ending brought home the need of love for fellow man. Steve Marion and Christy Smith were the two lovers who along with their supporting cast treated the audience to one of FVHS's finest productions. Drill Team Steps Brightly polished boots, red, blue, and gold uniforms, and flashing smiles char- acterized Fountain Valley's Baronettes Drill Team. The 54 girls represented their school in numerous parades and made special appearances at pep assemblies. Their high-stepping feet never failed to keep time with the drums as the Baron- ettes marched onto the field during half-time performances at Varsity football games. One of their most spectacular precision routines was presented to the Homecoming crowd November 14. In keeping with the theme, f'Golden Revue , the girls dressed authentically, complete with cameos and garters, and thrilled the audience with the can-can. Under the direction of Captains Janie Bosanko, Jan Curtis, Joy Dove, and Cindy Leeds, the Drill Team marched to first place ratings in both the Westchester and Santa Ana parades and received a third place trophy for their participation in the Westminster parade. The girls displayed poise, preci- sion, skill, and sportsmanship which gained them these honors. Their abilities did not go unnoticed, as the band director at Orange Coast College asked the girls' advisor, Miss Carol Strausburg, if they would be willing to perform for the schoolts Homecoming half-time ceremonies. Of course the girls were more than willing and, along with the band, made their appearance. Later in the year, Cindy Leeds was chosen by the team to represent Fountain Valley High School in the Miss Drill Team USA Pageant. She and a group of girls making up a competitive team displayed their talents before a panel of judges and brought home many awards to the school. TOP ROW: B. Pull, B. Rose, C. Weiler, J. Weiler, C. Present d At FVI-IS Besides the excellent acting, the play boasted an exceptional stage crew. Mr. Wood, drama teacher and director of the play, began work on this production at the conclusion of last year. Throughout the summer, students worked on set design and costumes, coming up with some of the most elaborate props ever used by a high school drama department. Student Director Becky Bent was proud that hers was the longest-running play in FV's history. Another record set by this performance. was that every presentation was made to a capacity crowd. Romeo and Julietw was truly indicative of exceptional talent and ingenuity. One of the many touching balcony scenes. Tybalt fMike Marooneyj speaks with Lady Capulet tKathy Pettitj.
