Mr- Edward D0f1'1al'l Mrs. Charlene Dunn Mrs. Jennifer Estabrook .f- Mr. David Feyk Mr. Joe Fitts Miss Vivian Fowler English: Key To English classes have traditionally been known to be among the most boring a high school student has to endure. Not so at Fountain Valley, for the teachers here found a secret that made the classes a little more interesting than most. An especially unique teaching technique was introduced this year in the Senior and Junior English classes. Three teachers, Mr. Dornan, Mrs. Kelly, and Mrs. Wells, developed a system of team-teaching which appealed to most of the students in their classes. Every three weeks classes and teach- ers changed and students had an opportunity to pick from subjects which interested them most. Among the subjects taught by these teachers were courses in Logic, the Term Paper, Literature, Shakespeare, and the other required as well as non-requisite courses. Mr. Charles Billings Mr. Ted Blackman Mr. Rodney Brown Showcase Of Talent The Industrial Arts halls were showcases of achievement. Stu- dents who worked daily in their drafting, metal, and printing classes had their accomplishments on display in the glass cases ap- pearing periodically on the hall walls. As you walked down the long corridors, you could hear the banging of heavy machinery, and you could be sure that some- thing useful was in the making. The Graphic Arts classes were responsible for the programs pro- duced for sports and musical events at Fountain Valley High School. Beautiful tables, chairs, and other wooden items were constructed in the wood shops. There was something doing every day in the auto and metal shops and each provided valuable ex- perience for every student. Draft- ing was not a class to take life easy in either. You could see the results of those classes' hard work in the showcases. Many of the plans and models produced by drafting students received awards when submitted in competitions. Creativity and imagination were key words in the Industrial Arts classes this year. Communication Perhaps the most helpful of the courses offered to the students was a preview and study of the SAT tests which Seniors must take when entering college. Be- sides the required first three years of English, Foun- tain Valley,s English department offered courses in speech and journalism. The two Journalism II classes met during sixth period and sometimes stayed far into the night producing the school's two publications, the Yearbook and the newspaper. The speech classes de- veloped speaking talents in students and some of them even went on to competitions and the reception of awards. With all the available audio-visual aids, English classes could never be as boring as they once were.
