Rain Nor Snow Stops Trojans The 1983 Spring Track season shot out of the blocks at what seemed to be a slow start, but as the season progressed, the Trojans began to pick up momentum. The evil spirit of the season was the lingering of the Colorado winter. Snow and wind blocked out the sea- son's first meet at Canon City, as well as the Denver Sheridan and Fountain meets. The Trojans made good use of the rest, coming back to take lst out of 17 at Florence and lst out of 14 at Fort Lupton. This started the Tro- jans' march, in earnest, toward the State Championship. Out of the season's ll meets, the Trojans picked up 5 firsts, including the Sante Fe Districts. ' M r Trojans Do It Again For the second year In a row, the Fountain Tro- jans emerged victorious at the AA State Track Meet. The Trojans placed in a total of eight events. Lance Mangham claimed state titles in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash finished fourth In the 100 meter dash, and was a member of the 800 meter relay team. H James Hester placed second In the 100 meter dash, sixth ln the 200 meter dash, and was a mem- ber of the 800 meter relay team. Darrek Guster placed third in the 800 meter run and was a member of the 1600 meter relay team. His performance, combined with the others who made it to state contributed greatly to the success of the team.
