QL to Rl Varsity squad tops it off with senior Essie Crutcher. Junior Varsity squad at their best. Spirit Leaders Compete In State 1983-84 Varsity and Junior Varsity competed in state this year with a little different twist in their cheers and rou- tines. One major difference about the varsity's cheer was they were the only squad with yellmasters. With more force- ful voices the words became more clear and more stronger. The cheer also con- tained 30 seconds of music to add move- ment and put more excitement into the middle of the cheer. The pom routine, done to the instrumental music of Your Arms are too Short to Box with God , taken from a musical performed on Broadway. The routine had many differ- ent moves and a lot of shoulder move- ment in it. Overall Trojan Varsity squad placed fifth in state. Junior Varsity squad received Superi- or in cheer placing them above all other J.V. squads. This was J.V.'s first year ev- ery competing in state.

New Changes Wrestling is a very competitive sport, it not only needs muscle but, consists of a lot of inside experience and skill. The Foun- tain-Fort Carson wrestling team has got many hard working and determined wres- tlers that put in hours of sweat and pain to achieve their goals. The first year as head coach can be a very trying year for both the team and for Jim Welte. Head Coach Jim Welte and Assis- tant Coach Mike Rossi have done a superb job putting changes into the wrestling pro- gram and benefitting the team. Much of the real support and leadership came from within the team. The seniors, Craig Barela, Don Manley, Eugene Pacheo, John Aragon and Ron Erickson each gave their individual leadership to the underclassmen on the team. Only one member of the wrestling team participated in State this year. Senior Don Manley qualified at the Woodland Park Tournament but, lost his first match to Tim Vandenend from Denver Christian. Without qualifying for State, Eugene Pacheco had a individual record of 17 wins and 6 losses, Ron Erickson with 13 wins and 6 losses. State qualifier Don Manley had an individ- ual record of 20 wins add 4 losses. ' QL to RJ Head Coach Jim Welte looks on. Junior, Kent Junglen goes for the pin. 1. f , ,- .K ,. .2 QL to RD: Asst.
