Defensive Hits Hard Senior Eugene Pacheco lead this years hard hitting defense with 112 tackles gaining him 148 points total. Crain Barela had the high of five interceptions and Bruce Wlllert with four pass deflections and junior Scott Baker with 3. Recovering three fumbles each for the Trojans defense was Jerry Hogan and Rick Mar- shall. Without such as aggressive defense the Fountain- Fort Carson football team would have never placed second ln the Pikes Peak League with a 5-1 record, or the State Class AA parllamentaries against Valley. The Trojans defensively played an outstanding game but, couldn't seem to hold Valley's offense from reaching the goal line. Valley came out on top with a 12-6 score at the end of the game, taking the Trojans out of the playoffs. Selected for the All Conference team this year were Clayborn Haynie, A.J. Jones, Rick Marshall, Eugene Pacheco, Craig Barela, Scott Baker, and Don Manley. Honorable mention went to Bruce Willert. IL to Rl: Coach Richen Smith expresses his true feelings after a Trojan Victory!! 78, Robert Fowler, plays his part on the Trojan defense as he gets ready to deflect a pass. A heavy defensive line gives the ball carrier a no galn situation.
