B.S. . PROMOTES MI ORITY ACTIVITIES The purpose of the BSU is to promote the rights of the black youth and to stimulate them to accomplishments higher than might otherwise be realized or even imagined. To accomplish these goals, individual, as well as group participation, is centered around civic, ethnic, and scholastic endeavors. The BSU goal is to encourage the black youth to become culturally aware of their own self-worth as well as to work together as an organizational unit. As these goals and desires are met and accomplished by the youths of the Black Student Union, better understanding of blacks by society will truly enhance the social and personal associations of all concerned. eww Activities sponsored by the BSU for 1979-80 school year have included the annual presentation of the Gong Show which was received well due to the excellent support of the student body and various teachers. Also included in the year's activity was the celebration of the Black History week in February. The celebrations included numerous paintings of influential blacks both past and present who worked in the areas of equal rights for all. The Library Club is a club that maintains and keeps the library in order by the members assisting with book checkouts and helping students find books. They are also in charge of decorating the window in front of the library. Club members read at least two books each month. The Library Club decided this year to refill the bean bag chairs and get some plants for the library. They also added a bright spot to the school by decorating the library window for the different holidays throughout the year. Each year the Library Club sponsors a booth for the Spring Carnival and members earn money for their end of the year party.
