MRS. Orton, sponsor of Student Council League Student Council members visiting Fountain!Ft. Carson High School. Student Council has had one of its busiest years this year. Homecoming week got off to a great start with a Homecoming week and dance. Some members of Student Council represented our school at many Santa Fe Student Council meetings as far away as Rye and Canon City. Others traveled to a Student Council conference sponsored by Districts 4 and 8. Between all of this, members of Student Council have livened up the school with innovative calendars, art boards. and posters: sponsored a Halloween costume contest: and acted as guides for the guest speakers on Career's Day. On Ianuary 23, the Student Council sponsored a League Student Council meeting. Four of the five schools in the Santa Fe League attended. This was a major project for the Student Council since this was our first year in the League, and we wanted to make a good first impression. Upcoming events include League Student Council meetings at Las Animas, and Rocky Ford, the annual carnival, and a few more dances. Student Council acts as a sounding board for the administration and the student body. The Council evaluates existing clubs to insure that they are meeting their responsibility to the Student Body. Any proposed new clubs must also be approved through the Student Council. Basically, Student Council is the governing body for the students, and the students voice to the administration. 87
