Every Trojan player was ready for the game. All the coaches were tense, but they all knew what the out come would he if the Trojan team played like they had been doing all year. The coaches jumped for joy as the last seconds of the game ticked off, The Trojan team had won the first playoff game in Fountains history, heating Denver Luthran 10-3 in a very spectacular game. The only TD was a 65 yard pass from Roy jenkins to Ron Townsend. Mike Fields kicked the pat, and earlier in the game a 37 yard field goal. Denver Lutheran was 10-0 going into the playoffs and Fountain was 7-2. Defense was the key to Fountains success in the game. stopping Lutheran at every drive. The Lights were the Denver Metropolitan League Champs. The only score for the Lights was a field goal in the second quarter, The game will stand out in Fountain history for a long time . . . Roy jenkins shows good form while passing. Tom Haynie was the leading tackler of the Trojans. 39

EXPLGSIVE OF FE Ron Townsend showing good catching form during the Birlington game. The Trojans won their first playoff game ever by beating Denver Lutheran, 10-3. The Trojans next opponent, the Birlington Cougars, they also entered the game unbeaten and was ranked second in the state by the polls. Stopping the Cougars four times inside the Trojans 20 yard line, led Fountain to a 7-6 victory. As a semi-final match up Fountain hosted the Pikes Peak League Champions, Buena Vista. The Demons rallied with 12 fourth quarter points to win the game 18-12. The Trojans finished the year with a 9-3 record and tied for third in State with Denver Sheridan. Buena Vista lost in the State Championship game to Steamboat Springs 12-0. Head Coach Richen Smith was named Coach of the Year by the Gazzette Telegraph Newspaper. The Trojans were the only Pikes Peak region team to win in the 1979 playoffs. All other area teams were beaten in the first round. Fountain out scored opponents 233-79 points.
