DISTRICT LIBRARIAN RETIRES A N .Q . mg A. Q . I I Y 357' I I .,i..zwfs ,5:x , , -S ' I K no kip My A , . District Librarian, Margaret Doudna, is retiring this year after working in the Fountain-Fort Carson School District for 22 years. Though Mrs. Doudna never intended to become a career woman , she has gontinuously served and dedicated her working years to this school istrict. When her husband was transfered to Fort Carson in 1958, Mrs. Doudna began working on the post as a 3rd and 4th grade teacher until 1963. She then took the position as grade school librarian at Fort Carson. Mrs. Doudna has been a librarian for 17 years. In 1975, she was offered the position of District Librarian, which she accepted. The Fountain-Fort Carson High School librarian is Mrs. Doudna, though many students are not aware of this because of the many duties she performs, and because only half of her time is spent in the high school, while she uses the rest of her time to work with all the other school libraries in the district. 120 Many improvements in the school libraries have taken place over the past 22 years, according to Mrs. Doudna. One new program which the library provides for teachers to use in the classroom with students is the video tape recorder, where educational programs are recorded from television. In Mrs. Doudna's opinion, this serves as a valuable learning experience for students. Though she has enjoyed her job, her career, and most of all working with the people, Mrs. Doudna plans on also enjoying her retirement. She plans to spend some time relaxing, sitting with my feet up , but she also plans to remain very active. A new career she is interested in is transcribing Braille for the blind. Also, she is an avid gardner and plans on traveling with her husband of 36 years who is retired military. High School Principal, lohn Shultz, would like Margaret Doudna to know that It has indeed been a real pleasure to have had the opportunity to work with Mrs. Doudna for the past five years. Her leadership and direction as District Librarian will surely be missed. I want to wish her the very best in her years of retirement.
