HIR B NINETEEN HUNDRED FIFTY - FOUR SP II .. F, Will you remember? Many years from now, when your high school days seem far behind you, will you remem- ber all the things that are so much a part of your life right now? So many of the places we go and the things we do that seem everyday routine will live in our memories to- morrow. The dances after those ex- citing games, decorating for what you thought was thebest prom yet, the confusion in the halls as everyone rushed from his class at the sound of the bell, the gab sessions in the locker rooms, the laughing faces and familiar scenes ..... All of these experiences are a part of our school life that will live on to be our memories of tomorrow. rU:l UJDISD We the annual staff brlng you our yearbook the 1954 FOHIRAB It IS our hope that at wnll serve as a lastmg remlnder of our class both now and for years to come It IS lmposslble to put all the memories of our school life Into one book but we have tried to brmg to each of you a llttle special something We couldn t begun to thank the many people who have helped wrth the publlcatson of thus book but we would like to glve a special thanks to our advlser Miss Moore who has so patiently glven her time and help As we bad farewell to the many friends we have made during our years In school we leave this book recording the hlghllghts of our year together THE ANNUAL STAFF ui that will help you to recall this as one of your best years at F.H.S. But always we found that no matter what our troubles were, the faculty was there to help us. Each teacher has had an important part in our growing up. We have been taught the fundamentals of education-the part you get from books -but even more important, the faculty has taught us to be better citizens of tomorrow, to get along better with our fellow man, to realize our mistakes and try to correct then, and to learn the meaning of iustice and discipline. Now for the first time, we realize that our teachers won't be there to patiently guide us after graduation, but we will always try to remember what each of them has taught us We say thank you to the faculty for being such an important part of our lives un the hope that they will be proud of the way each of us uses their teachings to better ourselves in the years to come. is i'f'T'X ir xsx Congratulations to every member of the class of 1954. Your leader- ship, co-operation and friendliness have been outstanding and one to challenge future graduating classes. It is always our hope that you have profited from your education- al training and that experiences will serve as guideposts for you in the years ahead It is my sincere wish that all of you may achieve the measure of suc cess you desire and that you will feel it your responsibility to take an act ive part In the growth of the com munity In which you live H L rd SUPERINTENDENT To Donna Nerklrk Your smile is a symbol of your friendliness toward the students t FHS You have become known and liked by all the students and faculty Because you are always willing to lend a hand In any way we thank you. The Class of l954. 1-41. ' .1 1 KF .- ,M ' 3 W . , TO MRS. CRAIN: Many times we have come to you for help- never finding you too busy to lift your head from your work and, with a friendly smile ask, "What can l do for you?". Although your days are filled with attendance slips, excuses, tele- phone calls and many other problems that seem to wander through the door of the high-school office, you always have time to lend a hand to the students. To you, we give a special thanks, for being a true person and friend. Our senior year will always hold mem- ories that may be slightly faded in the years ahead, but there will be times when these memories will find their way back into our thoughts. The lockers with the pictures and college stickers on them, the tardy slips .we had to get because we got to our homeroom seats iust a second after the bell, the best presidential campaign ever, with balloons, posters and speeches the teachers who, we thought, gave us too much homework but whom we adored iust the same, the dances and dates we had . . . . . . and many more memories will be ours. Our lives have been made much richer through the guidance and oppor- tunity given to us here. Fostoria High has long had athletic teams in football, basketball, wrestling, and track. The basic function of these sports is to develop the physical bodies of the participants. Athletics in our school, how- ever, serve a far greater purpose than just physical development. Spirit, and sports- man-like conduct have always been im- pressed upon the contestants. It is well that we recognize the determin- ation that our football team showed this year. Although they were literally crippled by iniuries, they kept their school spirit and gave their best in every game. This spirit must have been contagious for it was picked up by the basketball squad and was carried on through the wrestling and the track season. We might well be proud of our athletics for the way they participated and the honor they brought to our school. ATHLETIC BOARD ROWI John Gutknechi O K Coldwell Edward Covert H L Fod ROW 2 Ar! From the very beginning FHS has excelled in both instrumental and vocal music. This past year has been no except- ion, for Mr. Downs and Miss Slotterbeck have produced some of the finest instru- mental organizations, The marching band, concert band, and orchestra are a tribute to the school. Mr. Middleton and his vocal organizations have been active in school and civic affairs. The plays presented on the familiar stage in the audi- torium have been enthusiastic- ally received by their audien- ces during the past year. Many people are responsible for the success of each production. Our dramatics director, David Thompson, is the "guiding light" for the casts and crews who work many long hours pre- paring for "the big night". Mr. Thompson has helped to further dramatics in the years he has been here, not only in develop- ing the actors but in making the technical work of the stage the best it has ever been. While the productions pro- vide entertainment for the audi- ences, perhaps the plays are most important to the students who work so hard to make their play a success. No one knows the 'feeling of satisfaction of a iob well done as do these people after the final curtain is pulled. The dramatics department is one of which our students can well be proud. 96 DBHIIIHIIBS ALL-SCHOOL PLAY DIRECTOR ,lc- fifi 'ww , .1v..J'?il'2.lsfw,. There is a club for every in- terest-teaching, or industry dramatics or art. Each student may find an activity to further train him for whatever he plans to do in later life. N N 129 Progress and development of the community is emphasized by the business district of Fostoria. The mer- chants of Fostoria are always striving to aid the consumer. As a tribute to our advertisers, the FOHIRAB presents this section of the book. The progress of our town is found- ed on one word-cooperation. Through cooperation people seek to learn and to understand many things. This idea is being followed by the merchants of Fostoria by the use of advertising in our annual. The FOHIRAB and the Class of 1954 would like to express appreciation to the advertisers their contribution to the annual.
