1560! zz dig! ek PUBLISHED BY THE SENIOR CLASS OF NINETEEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY THREE FOSTORIA HIOH SCHOOL FOSTORIA OHIO of I953 S For six years, we, the Class of l953, have worked, learned, and had fun within this building. And now, as we are about to graduate a thou- sand and one memories race through our minds. "Remember when . . . ?" is heard echoing through the halls. Our Senior Class play . . . the prom we gave in our junior year . . . the Roman house built in Latin ll . . .our basketball team-undefeated in the Buckeye League . . . winning the one- act play contest every year-all of these have been a part of our school life. Each memory seems to recall another. Clubs and activities play an import- ant part in school life. Music and dramatics, too-but the everyday ex- periences in classes can be just as interesting and entertaining as being in a play or a concert. The jokes from classmates, while not always hilari- ously funny, certainly add a little spirit to a history class. ln the pages of this book are many reminders of good times. As we think back over the past few years and re- alize how much fun we've had and how important school has been to us, we hate to leave. But, we'll always have memories of six very wonderful years of high school life. Q V 'lla' H+ Q i il' :mum 4, J - Z ...., .. V., zz .1 . K I i ,ik . ' X . 3 Hi 5. WM Q 'mf Q we-v fw- Q . V -. Everyone was behind the teams one hundred per cent, and it made a big difference in the number of events wont The cheerleaders had a lot to do with this added zest, and the coaches and teams, too, for giving us scores to be proud of. But most of all the credit goes to all the kids who went to the events and yelled the Red- men on to victory. The fans added to this school spirit a big dose of good sportsmane ship, Fostoria l-ligh has always .been famous for fair play, but this year it was even more evident than usual. The sports year began with the football previeweeethe Redmen com- ing out on top, of course. After com- pleting a very successful football season, the boys went to work on the basketball courts. Here we really moved ahead of the other schools to take top honors in the Buckeye League, with the help ofa few green towels. During all this time, our year-e round team, the wrestlers, were out making a name for themselves. Last of all, the track team ended their seae son with a fine record. Looking back on the l952-53 sports year, we see that the Redmen have shown us teamwork, spirit, sportsmanship, and a lot of action. 5 I +513 od' 'W A ,X AP H i Q E n 4. fs -W r 1 if , . we H an 'Y aw Q, sw J? These words were heard a lot around Fostoria High this year, when the Red- men came through in the number three Spot in the Buckeye League, With Coach Dick Small in the driver's seat the team rode their way to five victories. The first and last games of the season were tough breaks but in between the boys really showed their stuff. Fostoria High has always been noted for her fine sportsmanship and clean play, and this year was no exception. DIRECTOR Mr. David Thompson "FATHER OF THE BRIDE" "Ring, ring" - - - "Whatl More bills!" "Where's the groom?" "A small, quiet wed- ding." - - - "Ah, yes." These are small snatches of conversation from the all-school play, "Father of the Bride," given on Novem- ber twenty eighth. Remember this hilarious comedy? How did poor "Father" ever keep from going to the poor house or the insane asylum, with Kay's spending all his money and Buckley's turning up missing? The play, directed by Mr. David Thompson with the help of Betty Jordan, student director, was a tre- mendous success. 1. rm SENIOR CLASS PLAY OUTWARD BOUND Scrubby Jim Braden Ann Barbra Fletcher Henry Jack Dauterman Mr Mrs Rev Mrs GV Prior Jim Rowan Cliveden Banks Betty Jordan William Duke Blaine Hummel Midget Carolyn Peltier Lmgley Jack Harris Frank Thomson Rudy Schoendortt STUDENT DIRECTOR Dick Rothgeb On May l the auditorium at Fostoria High was filled to capacity when the Seniors presented their annual class play Outward Bound. Under the direction ot Mr. Thompson the play was a big success. A strange company of ship-mates mystitied by a vaguely oppressive feeling of unreality and uncer- tainty suddenly discovers that every last one of them is dead. Their ship unmanned and without lights is gliding noiselessly across the River Styx and when one of the characters in terror asks the sole attendant whether they are bound for Heaven or Hellg the an- swer is "Bothl . . . lt's the same place, you see?"
