Dmgcron Richard Downs As a result of the tireless efforts of the musicians and the inspiring lead- ership of Mr. Richard Downs and Mr. Sidney Hauenstein, the 1947 orches- tra was one of the best in our school's musical history. During the long weeks of practice, we hear the sharps and flats floating through the halls and we wonder what is going on. Then there is a concert and we know. The performance is always good, Congratulations also to the pit orch- estra which furnishes the music for the assemblies, the plays, and this year, for the opera. ORCHESTRA Pit Orchestra K i, B. The High School Choir, under the able direction of Mr. Middleton, has made a dis- tinguished contribution to the cultural lite of the community. It had the distinction of being the first musical organization to con- duct a radio broadcast from the stage of the auditorium when the Christmas Vesper pro- gram Was presented. An outstanding por- tion oi the program was the rendition of Fred Waring's arrangement of The Night Before Christmas . The Choir has lent itself to its purpose: bringing enjoyment to countless listeners. P E L L A C f H O I R 77 GIRLS' GLEE FIRST ROW: B. Slayter, B. Parsell, R. Tate, B. Zeiqler, I. Pierce, S. Members of the cast are depicted on these paqes. It was the consensus of opinion that the perform- ance, under the direction of Mrs. Carolyn Callendar, was convincingly and cleverly acted by the entire cast. The story of the play portrayed the trials presented to a veteran just returned from World War II. When the final curtain dropped, it had been explained to the audience the significance of the title, Snafu - Situation Normal, All Fouled Up. Certainly, the per- formance was not and congratulations to the cast are in order. IOS V The lunior Class ot Fostoria High presented the zany comedy, lanuary Thaw , as its contribution to the dramatic program of the year. The play was Well staged, the farcical characters cleverly portrayed, and the audi- ence most appreciative. The action took place in the living room ot an old Connecticut farmhouse over a six months' period. Everything one could im- agine passed its Way behind the tootlights, yea, even a pig. Congratulations, lunior Thespians, tor a fine performance. 46? JANUARY THAW CAST OF CHARACTERS Herbert Gage ............................. lim Hicks Martha Gage tHis Wiiel ..... ....
