Advanced Crch estra The Advanced Orchestra ot' the Fortuna Union High School has im- proved a great deal during the past year under the direction of Miss Dor- othy Dale. The orchestra has furnished music for the Student Body play, the Senior play, the Christmas program, the Poultry Show, and the Operet- ta. The group hrought credit to the school when they played at Arcata High School and contributed selections for the Music Festival at Eureka. They played for the "Public Schools Week" program, for the Baccalaureate Service and for Commencement. As the members of the advanced orchestra are graduated they are re- placed hy the experienced members of the Elementary Orchestra and in this Way, the balance of the orchestra is maintained. The organization studies representative music of the classic, romantic and modern compose1's. I Page S-1

Orchestradians If you heard a racket in the music room at frequent intervals it would be safe to guess that the Orchestradians were practicing. They are a group of about twelve students who supply any type of "Jazz" whenever it is needed. The organization started last year as just a group of boys who saw a need of supplying music outside of the orchestras. This year they met once a month as a club and discussed ways and means of produc- ing more and better "jazz." They met regularly every two weeks at the homes of the members to practice. They gave a great deal of enjoyment to the school by playing in relays for the Friday noon dancers. The dancers liked the music better than the rest of the school liked the practicing. The members got much valuable practice in playing before the public. This was their second year and they have been improving all the time. They entertained the fathers and sons at the "Father and Son Bust" given at the High School by the Boys' League. Page 85 I .
