la 'Sigel f1?2!ffQ,Jl'tj YWHSZQQLLW SOPHOMORE5 After a three months rest durmg the summer of 1915 we returned to school wxth bxams well rusted from lack of use and ready to take upthedutles ed much pralse for our good work along thls lnne and buzlt up a regxon ot No man s land between us and our new brothers and sxsters Durxng tlus year the soclal s1de of our nature began to show ntself and we were very pleas antly entertanned by a few of our fellow classmates at a masquerade ball at the Marquette Although most of the gxrls may have lumped durmg the even mg the boys were the ones to favor thexr stxlts by lxmplng the tollowmg d xy Then ah' sad fate' when the moon led us astru by nts sentrmenttl charms to a moonlxght hay rack party lhe roll call on the followxn 1 morn mg however showed full attendance so All 1s well that ends well I do not wnsh to enumerate too many of our vnrtues but one more rs qulte essentmal our unparalled bravery To find oneself suddenly smttmg nn a great hall rn utter darkness 15 quxte shock enough to the normal heart but to hear a shrxll voice plerce the stxllness wxth Turn on those lxghts you cowards rs almost enough to frrghten even us However we soon recovered realmzxng that nt was only the affrlghted cry of one of the members of the class of 16 No perm an ent 1n1ury resulted JUNIORB We fmally landed on the shore of an eventful and enjoyable ye mr wlth more sense than money But thls handmcap was wlth tactful hand very easnly placed rn the wood box of our worrxes 1 jxtney carnival or what would be more approprlately named a rolhckxng round of tun filled our treasury wrth the much coveted preclous metals Let no one ever fool you mto to be 1lCVll'lg there rs no fun 1n hard manu al labor Ask any ot the membt rs of the class of 18 and they wxll tell you that IS a questmon wnth them whether they or those who attended the affaxr had the more fun But there' how could any one expect such a jolly good class as that of 18 to do anythmg tut enjoy enther work or play' By passmg unto our thmrd year of hxgh school we had also thoroughly lnltxated ourselves mto football and lts w1les Daddy handed out many quarter dollar for us to go and see our boys help take the bxg end of the score For not once dld we do otherwlse What was the result? Rego jg ev zaza frm OUR FOUR YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL HFLEN STLMPI' L Probably the proudest tame IH the chnldhood memorxes of the class of 18 was that day of dawnmg reahzatuon that very soon we were tobe enrolled as members of that famous and much admlred plle of brick and mortar at the corner of Tlnrd and Maple called F M H S Thxs day was inversely proporhonal to the day on whnch our bashful ngnorant faces shone forth luke stars from the first four rows of the assembly ffor we were many ln number and mighty m deedsl Were we not justxfled m smxlmg for did we not have the notable dxstmctxon of bemg the very Greenest freshxes who had ever been permltted to the honorable seats set apart 1n thxs great mstltutxon for just such 1nmates as we? But we followed the old saylng A poor begmmng means a good end tof course emphasxzmg the latter part Talkmg about dustlnctxons I mlght mentxon one more w1thout bormg you or remmd mg you of nts hugh numerxcal attachment It IS that of our havxng had as one of our number our beloved prmcrpal Mr J W Fxsh For upon seemg the wonderful materxal portrayed 1n those countenances whnch were supposed to be the greenest of all those two hundred wh1ch met hxs first glance at the assembly room he fully and qu1ckly declded to enter thus school of learnmg wxth us and make hls home m our beautlful lxttle lakeslde cxty One allow ance for thus member we w1ll have to make he was the bnggest freshxe but not the greenest Our upper classmates all feel very much lndebted to us for such wonderful help towards securmg such a competent leader We have also proved the honor due us tn havmg kept hxm for our prlnclpal through all but the last semester of our hxgh school days In the first year of our gentle career we showed our most studnous hab1ts and our love for school hours by holdmg an addxtnonal sessxon from four P M untzl seven thxrty P M We even sacrnficed our evemng meal nn order to seek out from the number of susplclous characters the one gunlty of the offense Near the mxddle of the year the general course of events was agam seasoned wlth an unusually spxcy Hallowe'en party Our ornglualxty and good taste were here well dxsplayed m our nxfty costumes as well as ln the gentle treatment of the treatable eats We feel sure, however, that 1f a few ptneys had been used for the purchasmg of some rubber ball and the energy exerted 1n haulxng to the place of entertamment, a bucket full of smooth, oozy mud fm the rnght proporhons of dnrt and water, sultable for makmg mud PICS, so much of the eatlng maternal had not been used for subshtutes fOh' house wnves the famxharuty of that last wordl lc :QL nfl: rl 29 It ,lf my ng ,fr cc ,ln fr' 'if H H or H- f we eww- -we - f' Q: .
