The purposes of it is to give the students a voice in the government of the school. At the beginning of the school term, members of the Student Council are elected. Each room has the right to elect one representative and one alternate representative. The Hrst and third Wednesdays of each month are set aside for the meetings of the council. The Council is divided into six committees. Each committee, sponsored by one member of the school faculty, has a special duty to perform. All the work of the Council is done through these committees. Any bill that is passed by the Council is referred to an advisory board consisting of, one member of the school board, the superintendent, and the principal of the school. In 1921 the paper was taken over by the school and the name was changed to Spilled Ink. With the goal of keeping the best traditional features, and at the same time adding new ideas which would greatly improve the paper, the Spilled Ink staff, together with its assistants and reporters, has been able to maintain the high standards which were previously attained by this publication. Spilled Ink has received a great many honors this year. Among the most important of these, was the receiving of third place in the National High School newspaper contest, conducted by the Columbia Press Association The sport page was given a perfect rating. The members of the staff are chosen by the sponsor of the paper with the advice of the principal of the high school after try-outs have been held. The students who have worked on the paper and who have attained the high qualiiications necessary to edit this publication are the ones usu- ally chosen for the important positions on the staff. Newspapers are the wor'ld's mirrors. 1'.XfllG 'l'1YI'lN'l'Y-Sl Xl X
