DEDICATION It is an honor to pay tribute to one who has become such a genuine part of Fort Ashby High School. Her contributions are quiet ones: She gives advice; she becomes involved in the activities and efforts of the student body; she knows where things are, who’s supposed to be where and when, and what’s going on and why. For all she is to them, for all she does for them and for the entire school, the 1968 Fortress Staff dedicates this book to our secretary, Mrs. Frances Alkire.

JOY God sent us Joy down from heave above, For eighteen years she was ours to love. Not very long to live on this earth For one so happy and full of mirth. Happy-go-lucky, wanting to have fun, Always with a joke for everyone. Her life was filled with sickness and pain In and out of the hospital again and again. Most of us, I'm sure, would complain and fuss If we had to bear even half as much; But amid all her suffering Joy could smile Oh, I'm okay, she'd say in her inimitable style. Yes, we'll always remember Joy -- her laugh and her song; Though her body's not here her spirit lives on. We know she is happy now and free from pain, And we would not wish her back here again.
