Last Will and Testament We, the Senior Class of 1959 of Fort Ashby High School, being of simple mind and desiring to leave nothing to chance, do hereby make known to all people concerned our last will and testament: Eunice Abe bequeaths her place in the minstrel to Shirley Beam. FALASHBIAN Business Manager Frances Abe willingly leaves Colin Lease all her duties. “Sonny” Abe leaves his run-out-of-gas problems to Gary Shanholtz. Judy Isner is proud to be given Carol Alt’s love for music. William Anderson passes his chemistry knowledge to “Joe’’ Kesner. Barbara Bauer bequeaths her “baby” car to Coach Sayers and his driver's education class. Paul Borror leaves William Shanholtzer the keys to his Ford. Wear them with honor, “Steve.” “Ken” Chase bequeaths his loafing-in-the-office to Richard Abe. Rae Carole Emmart willingly gives Carole Miller her height. Faye Evans leaves her cute smile to the principal’s secretary, Mrs. Brelsford, Use it often, Louise. Patricia Kidwell’s giggles are passed on to Beth Shreve. Ruth Lark presents her middle name Alberta to whoever can stand it. Ruth Liller leaves Kay Clevenger her waves. Eagles’ manager Gary Logsdon leaves ‘‘Jack”” Mauk his job. Do it well, “Jack.” Bernard Long endows “‘Jim’’ Steed with his honor of valedictorian. John Mellon’s shy and usually quiet ways go to Joylou Harper. Will it work? Beverly Myers endows “Joy’’ Boyland with her ability to get along with teach- ers. Try to live up to it, “Joy.” Warren Nestor is proud to present his quiet ways and well-trained manners to Arnold French. June Haines is the recipient of Janet Newhouse's special seat on Biser’s bus. William Price leaves “Phil” Dayton his ability to tell jokes without laughing. Glen Pyles is ready to give up all other dates for one special girl, so “Timmy” Adams is given Glen’s lost desire. Janet Adams is the most deserving recipient of Nancy Pyle’s title of “most courteous.” Lee Rexrode gives his Lilt home permanent to Samuel Iman. Free hair cuts seem to be David Sherman;s luck, so the luck is passed on to “Doug” Kenney. Wayne Shreve passes ,his muscles to small, but certainly not easily forgotten, “Jimmy” Hartman. Ernest Snyder gives his bowling duty to Harold Vance. Mary Snyder’s diamond love is given to Sandra Allen. Patsy Spencer bestows upon Wanda Umstot her ability to make good grades. Joyce Wolford grants Shelia White her naturally wavy hair. Class Prophecy Irene Iman Riggleman, who left our class right after mid-term to complete her high school studies at Broadway, Virginia, looks to the tomorrows and lists her findings. After a lapse of nearly a decade, so the record should show, prophet Irene returns to the fast grow- img town of Fort Ashby to learn the status of the 59’ers of Fort Ashby High. Upon arrival she is greeted by Navy Lieutenant Paul Borror, who happens to be passing through town. Also at the transportation depot she meets Beverly Myers Bosley and Ruth Liller Riden, who are returning from a shopping trip to Cumberland. The two are now mothers and happy housewives. Moving toward the center of town, the visitor notices a familiar name on an office door. She enters and greets Dr. Bernard Long, who at that moment happens to be in his reception room filled with patients. Dr. Long nods toward the office desk where Irene sees his receptionist, Faye Evans, look- ing neat and efficient. What luck! Less than half an hour in town and already Irene has contacted five of her 59’ers. But this is only the beginning, for this is really her lucky day. Emerging from the office, the prophet is greeted by Air Force Pilot David VonHagel. How hand- some he looks in his Air Force blue! He informs her that David Sherman is also in the Air Force and will be home in a few days. Pilot VonHagel says he is on his way to the Air Force center in Cumberland, where “Bill” Price is the local recruiting officer. Farther down the street the visitor sees a sign reading Donna’s Beauty Salon. That name raises memories—it just could be! So she enters and meets the manager who, as she suspected, is none other 73 than Donna Hershberger. While the two are greet- ing each other, in walks Barbara Bauer who loses no time in displaying her diamond and letting it be known that she has already chosen her bridal gown. After this exciting encounter, Miss Hershberger de- cides to take the rest of the day off and show the out-of-town visitor around. The two approach the Fort Ashby elementary school. Knowing that school is in session, they enter and by coincidence the first person they meet is Miss Janet Newhouse, the first grade teacher. Just a look at her pupils and classroom makes it apparent that Miss Newhouse likes her work and is in turn liked by those whom she teaches. A visit to the high school on the hill is also rewarding, for there the two visitors meet the prin- cipal’s secretary, Miss Patsy Spencer, who shortly takes them to the home economics instructor, Miss Donna Brelsford; then on to another high school teacher, Miss Nancy Pyles. Memories of bygone days are exchanged, and the two move on to greet other pals of that year of '59. Again they are on the street and, as Miss Hershberger looks at her watch, she tells her companion that right then disc jockey “Sonny” Abe is doing his daily radio program of rock ‘n’ roll. Irene makes a mental note that she must tune in that program when she gets home. The conversation turns to the town of Fort Ashby and its rapid growth in pouplation and progress. The visitor is informed that the acting mayor is William Anderson, who has studied to be a lawyer and has just become a member of the local bar. The prophet in quick succession learns of others of the 59’ers as her companién Donna fills her in. Carol Getz is in far-off Africa, telling the natives of the Christian way of life. Gary Kenney is proprietor of a local Texaco station. His helpers are John Mellon, who tends the pumps, and “Kenny” Harper, who is the full time mechanic. Larry Brown has completed his required tenure in the United States Army and shows promise of leadership. He expects to re-enlist and make a career of it. Dowaine Weaver will hold up the FAHS rep- utation in the Navy. Blanche Bosley is a private secretary in Keyser. Also doing secretarial work in the same city is Frances Abe. Blanche and Frances find each other congenial company. Miss Hershberger tells of still other classmates. Norma Kenney is married and lives on Maryland the city Eunice Abe, who works at Lerner’s, and Carol Alt, Avenue, Cumberland. Also in same is who is a stenographer for Potomac Edison. Patricia Kidwell is taking religious training at a Bible school in Georgia. Farther south in the sunny land of Florida, Harold Hershberger is the com- manding officer of a naval base. Irene and Donna have been invited by telephone to the home of Mary Snyder Long for lunch. On their way they meet Harley Wagoner and “Frank” Steed, who have recently received their honorable discharge from the United States Army. The lunch- eon date with Mrs. Long passes all too quickly as host and guests reminisce. Again on the city streets the two visitors meet the former Ruth Lark, a part-time receptionist for a local dentist, but whose chief business is being a house- wife. With Ruth on the street is Joyce Wolford, a dental hygienist. Then Donna takes Irene into the leading restau- 74 rant in town, Wagoner’s Best Eats, managed by Judy Wagoner Ross. Here they also meet Rae Carole Emmart and Ernest Snyder. Rae Carole, they learn. is working in an orphanage, caring for children aged two weeks to three years. Ernest tells them that he is working at the local Gulf station, owned and operated by Wayne Shreve. Wayne also has a bull- dozer which may be hired for a price. As the two sip a cup of tea, Donna continues. Edward Wasson is studying to be a technical engin- eer. Johnny Tipping is home on furlough from a tour of duty with the United States Marines. This fightingest branch of service really builds men if the matured Johnny is a fair sample. John Boyland, “Ken” Chase, and Edward Willison are working at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory near Pinto, Maryland. All three are yearning to take a trip to the moon. When and if they do, they pro- mise to bring or send back some of that famous green cheese of which, they have hear d, the moon is made. On the street the two ladies meet truck drivers Warren Nestor and Larry Troutman, who stop a- while to reminisce. Also navy man Glen Pyles comes by and tarries a bit to chat. A little farther on, a new building is being erected. The builders are Gary Logsdon and Lee Rexrode. They greet the prophet and her companion and make known that they should like the contract to build Irene’s house if and when she decides to vacate the trailer. The Class of '59 has been accounted for, and i has indeed been a fruitful day for the prophet. She boards a bus to return to her husband and trailer at Broddway, Virginia; Donna returns to her beauty salon to pick up the receipts for the day. !
