She is teaching us our A B C’s and how to write our names. Wayne Fertig sucks his thumb every day, and Miss Etta has decided to get him a bottle and nipple. There are twins, Nina and Tina Kimble, in our class. Future Class of ’49 1938-39 Dear Diary, Our second grade teacher is Miss Elizabeth Stemple. Helen Funk is a new student. Irene Kimble and Melvin Newlon have fallen quite hard for each other. He has learned to write her notes, and believe it or not, diary, all of us can read them. Future Class of ’49 1939-40 Dear Diary, Third graders now. Miss Virginia Bolen is teaching us to be healthy, and each month the winning row in the contest receives a prize. Little Dottie Twigg is our new student this year. We are having an operetta this year. Our high school building, which had been under construction, is ready for us although we were in it only two weeks. Future Class of ’49 1940-41 Dear Diary, We are now “Big Wheels” in a four room school. Miss Mary Ellen Beckman started to paddle Mike Malone yesterday, but he jumped out the window and ran up town. Future Class of 49 1941-42 Dear Diary, This is our fifth year of learning. Miss Wimer received a broken arm while coming to school. Jo Ann Sandbower, Jean Marker, and Tommy Davis have skipped a grade and have now joined us. Victor Long has come to us from Pattersons Creek School this year. We moved into the High School Building this school term. Future Class of ’49 1942-43 Dear Diary, Our big thrill came today. We are to our half way mark. Again we are presenting an operetta and an “Information Please” program in as- sembly. Evelyn Lease is a new student and Mrs. Evelyn Pownell is a new teacher this year. We are going to have a student council. Future Class of ’49 1943-44 Dear Diary, This is a thrill for us because we are in the seventh grade and we are members of Fort Ashby High School. It makes us feel big to be able to change classes. We have quite a few new members this year: Doris Householder, Dolores Lark, Maynard Davis, Ray Elder, Bud Dyer, Alan Whitacre, and Danny Whitacre. Miss Swecker is our home room teacher. Betty Evans gave us all a scare several days ago when she was doing some high jumping in Physical Education. Victor Long and Tommy Davis went before the student council for chasing Jo Ann Sandbower in the mud. Future Class of 749
