His eyes were dreamy when he saw Alma as head mor- tician at Hafer's Funeral Home. He forcasted you could find the best beauty treatment in town at Kay and Jean's Beauty Salon. At Camp Lee, Virginia, he saw Privates Paul Twigg, Ed Davis, and Fred Wagoner reporting to Sergeant RobertLee Wetzel for K.P. Duty. Marko advised that you tune in WWVA for the RexrodeRound- up featuring Dorothy as star singer;and the nine o'clock Hit- Parade for Wendell Bohrer singing the latest hit tune. Marko predicted that Secretary Betty Jo would be working in a Dentist's office for a tall dark haired dentist. He saw Helen Senn as Secretary to head Dietitian at Memorial Hospital. The gypsy told of rival taxi-services in Fort Ashby and Short Gap, Shafer's Speedy Service and Douthitt Doubtful.Driv- ing. Donald Brooke is owner of the most prosperous Dairy Farm in the Fort Ashby Region. He saw Richard Lee Deremer running against Earle Boore for Mayor of Fort Ashby. The fortune teller reported that the neatest, most com- fortable house in Fort Ashby was kept by Mrs. Eugene Clayton. The nation's latest sensational pianist, Melvin Woolford, will play., Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. That smart looking girl in the green suit is government worker, Helen Abe. It seems to Violet and Evelyn that they say pleasantly , Number Please , at least 500 times a day, since they became telephone operators. For a glimpse of Isabel, Marko looked into Rosenbaum's where she works behind the cosmetic counter. That plump little housewife visioned !n the campfire is Betty Lou Davis. The Seer fortold of a glorious winning streak in Fort Ashby's Football Season. Coached by Donnie Linn, the Eagles are making football history. Light was added to the campfire by the sparkling diamond on Imogene's left hand. The campfire was in an uproar as Paul Davis leading his orchestra entertained the customers of Jake's Place. The social star of Pinto, Miriam Livingood, appeared at an afternoon tea wearing a white suit with Lime colored acce- ssories. Betty Long is the latest word in efficiency and charm as secretary to the most outstanding lawyer in Cumberland. The gypsy prophet hinted of wedding bells for June-those regular dates must mean something. Harold Umstot is still an industrious worker at the Kelly. After work hours he dates that special girl friend. One of the top-ranking baseball coaches of Mineral County is Edgell Long. The visions of the campfire were very pleasent and pro- mised gay futures for the Seniors of 19 7• June Senn Violet Bolyard Evelyn Baldwin Welcomed by Miss Etta Dunn in September 1936, Melvin Woolford, Richard Deremer,Paul Davis, Paul Twigg, Fred Wago- ner, Robert Wetzel, Betty Jo Barnes, Thelma Wagoner, Dorothy Rexrode, Kathleen Anderson, Alma Adams and Helen Abe, began their quest for knowledge. We as the Seniors of 46-47 are proud to say that we are the largest Senior Class ever to graduate from Foit Ashby High School. The Seniors of 1947 sincerely hope that they have pre- sented a good example to the lower classmen of Fort Ashby, that our school may grow in better sportsmanship and greater desire for learning. Kay Anderson Helen Senn ‘Witt $iameni We, the seniors of 19 7, being ofsound mind, do solemnly swear this to be our last Will and Testament. To the members of Fort Ashby High we fondly bequeath the following: Alma wills to Delores Lark her bottle of neverfail peroxide and her love for charcoal chewing gum. Paul Shafer leaves his routine office and library visits to Alan Whitacre. Betty Lou leaves her giggle to make life cheery after she is gone. Bernard leaves his mischievous cackle to haunt Miss Pownall. Melvin leaves his A's and musicaltalent to Harry Cumberledge. Betty Long leaves her love of the Embassy Theater to Grace Shafer. Donald Linn wills his tardiness and basketball ability to Jimmie Livingood. Ed Davis would like to give his beard to his brother Jim. Donald Brooke wills his farm talk to James Beatty Pyles. Earle Boore leaves his talkative manna and wavy hair to Rich- ard Pyles. Dick Deremer wills his pipe and his way with the teachers to Vernon Shirley. Paul Davis wills his dimples and his manner afwalking to Leo- nard Evans. Edgell Long gives his baseball pitching ability to Don Frank- land. Wendell Bohrer bestows his Frankie voice on Blair Brooke. Paul Twlgg wills his blush and chewing gum to Jimmie Davis. Harold Umstot leaves his snoozing in class to Ernie Boatman I Fred Wagoner wills his slow, witty remarks to Tommy Davis. Bob Wetzel leaves his funnie books to Ernie Boatman. Betty Jo wills her ability to stick to one boyto Betty Garland. Violet Bolyard bequeaths herchemistry ability and a few pounds to Mary Lee Burger. Evelyn Baldwin leaves her red hair to Evelyn Lease. Thelma wills her big laugh and her ability to play basketball to Ethel Hepner. Miriam Livingood leaves her chemistry book to the study hall at 10:00 in room 2. Dorothy Rexrode leaves her love of Hillbilly Music to Helen Funk. June Senn loaves her steadiness to Erma Welch. Helen Senn leaves her behaviorin typing class to Dottie Twigg. Helen Abe wills her habitof not getting in English assignments to Shirley Alkire. Isabelle Anderson leaves her love of reading the sports page to Dorothy Rlnker. Patsy Starliper wills her marriage license to Doris Householder. Kay Just leaves with much rejoicing. To our teachers we leave the memories of our antics and our Inability to consider anything seriously. To Mr. Judy we leave the problem of getting next year's seniors to class on time. To the future seniors we present our home room and our capable home room teacher. To the lower classmen we leave our books, teachers, and positions in all the sports. Helen Senn Kay Anderson cyfyo’s w$o When Helen Abe came to us We thought her very quiet, But since she rides the Short Gap Bus Her laughter is our dally diet. Our Alma has a graceful swing H er locks form a golden crescent: H er voice is like the breath of Spring And her talk—Well, it’s Incessant 1 A gentle lass is the fair Isabel Who never seems in a hurry; Her quietness and sincere faith dispel The clouds that fret and worry. Someho? we've learned to love Kathleen Her work is always well done; She has a smile that's often seen And her future will be a bright one. Evelyn is small but full of vim Her eyes and ears are steady; When worthwhile knowledge is aswim She proves alert and ready. When there's work to be done, we call Betty Jo Who plays, sings, or acts to befriend us; No wonder the students all love her so At games, her cheering's tremendous. Our comedian and singer of note is Wendell Who loses his way between classes But when teachers find him, they know very well He'll be crooning to girls as he passes. Violet is known by her soft spoken words In Chemistry class, she exceeds all; When she works, she moves with the grace of birds With a smile, she responds when you call. There's always a breezy greeting from Earle When he may be quite sleepy and tired; Though his words pop and tumble and rumble and swirl His musical tones are admired. We have in our midst a sweet singer named Jean Y ho works at high speed on assignments; With a mind alert and an intellect keen She will perfect the social refinements. fmm is; Deremer is serious at work—but at play He's a cut-up, a prankster frightful At business he's best, but his friends all say H e's an athlete and actor delightful. Though Bernard is small, he's the busiest of boys Fun and Mischief twinkle in his bright eyes You'd never guess he could make so much noise If you Judged him entirely by size. • Maxine is plump and blonde and cheery She finished her work and departed With her husband, Carl Bowman, who calls her deary And pledges his troth to remain true-hearted. Donnie Linn is our Romeo Card Who thrills us by readings from plays He won first place as all tournament guard and will cherish athletics always. Miriam is known by her musical drawl Which is very attractive and clever Her work Is well done and she's ready at call To assist any helpful endeavor. A diligent worker is Donald Brooke Who is busy from morn until night; He knows how to manage a team and can cook What appeals to a big appetite. A small, dainty actress is blonde Imogene Who speaks with a soft, shy accent; She Is very attractive as cheering squad queen We are sure for romance she was meant. Betty Lou Davis knows how to serve eats When one needs her, she's always right there; She's friendly and kind to all whom she meets And she makes all decisions with care. Edward pretends to be somewhat obtuse His books and his tests don't annoy him For he can invent any kind of excuse When the lesson assignments grow dim. Paul Davis is handsome and princely in bearing His musical skill on the trombone Attracts the fair sex who are always declaring, He surely can make that thing moan. A tall quiet blonde is Betty Long Whose smile is a constant delight; Her singing voice, though not very strong Is as sweet as a bird's song at night. Edgell Long is our clever, dark eyed antic Who never worries or frets; He doesn't respond when girls feci romantic He turns away, smiles, and forgets. i Dorothy Rexrode is slender and shy She's glad to meet with school friends For when she is home, her work she will ply From morning till the day ends We always know it's Helen Senn When someone says, Don't hurry I For she believes there's time I It's when Folks rush and fume, there's worry. June is happy at work or at play She's busy all the while She helps when she can, any time of the day And always comes in with a smile. An athlete who rates is our playboy Paul Shafer A Beau Brummell with excellent poise; He's a prize at mixed parties, but we'd think him safer If he'd cultivate more homely joys. Wherever Patsy was concerned Things always were a cinch Her handsome help-mate, we've just learned Is her husband, Marshall Lynch. Paul Twlgg is the quiet, easy kind Whose nature never varies; He's often late for he never can find His books which he seldom carries. Harold's a busy man of affairs Who doesn't find time to be sleeping; He's often late and we don't think he cares For the money he makes, he is keeping. Fred Wagoner surprised us in public speaking The applause for his speech on Conant Is proof that the country will soon be seeking A farmer with skill as proponent. Thelma's sly smile is surely a winner She's so busy, she's never a bore; In basketball art she is not a beginner For her skill helped us pile up the score. Our tall, slender wolf with the cunning blue eyes Proves quite active when trailing a fair maid; But when work's to be done, Bob's a bundle of sighs And prefers a cool place in the shade. We have among us an unusual lad Whose voice and whose manners are charming He's an athlete, an actor; and we'd like to add Melvin's way with the girls is alarming.
