Just beyond John Ashby's Fort Stands the school we love so dear, All the years have been so short, But today, the end is here. From our true friends we shall part We're leaving Fort Ashby, too Next year many more will be throughe The Senior Class enters the world, Ana from our books we'll rest a spell, New fields we hope will be unfurled With saddened hearts we say farewelle Bill Frase (i aN} SQ. 10 THE SENIORS i ' | The Class of Nineteen and Forty Six Is very small, you know, in number; But when it comes bo doing things | They neither sleep nor rest nor slumber, Each night calls forth a happy crew To Teen-Age Clubs or movie shows; The girls, of course, have lots of fum For they are blessed with many beaux. Marion is charming, with eyes that twinkle Her smile is like a day in Spring; She's always ready to lend a hand To solve any problem the day may bring. The other gay petite of the senior class Is ilda who really makes things hum, She plays basketball and cheers for the boys And all of us know she's a peach of a chum. The Romeo of the class this year Is Frank who can win any arguments His love of fair play is always expressed By his quiet manner and noble intent. Glenwood is happiest when working full speed; The School News with interest he helps to prepare; He regulates the mimeograph and adjusts the : loud speaker, There are very few things he cannot repair. Pat's good matured fun is a tonic for teachers; His winsome smile is a constant reminder That tho! darkness results from a cloud as she passes The radiant sun is beaming benind her, Donald is clever, polite and Zaye As an actor in plays, he's hard to beats He's a basketball star and ja football, a wonder; When he's going his best, the fans have a treat, Ronald is lively and full of fun ‘ Wherever the gang is, you'll always find him, He's a singer, an actor, an athlete of note When it's noon, we don't have to remind hin. Billy has always loved to travel; Just name the nlace and he's ready to go; In school he's the talk of the fair young midens At college he'll be a delightful beau. Our business man we all know as Jack A friend in need and a friend indeed; He's thrifty, he's ‘handy, he delivers our News If it weren't for him, we'd have have nothing to read. Wayne is our faithful man of affeirs; He disciplines himself and obeys every rule; With ease, he plays salesman to help his class win When anything's needed at Fort Ashby School Class Sponsor, Helen Pownall In September 1933, three of the present seniors, Frank Walker, Jack Alkire, and Marion Abe put forth their courage and climbed the steps to the little white school-house at Fort Ashby where they were welcomed by Miss Etta Dunn, who enrolled them in the Primer Class now known as kindergarten. Here,. they remained for the first grade welcoming one new meaber Hilda Kimble, who had attended primer class at the Horseshoe School, with Miss Pauline Duling as instructor. These four members hed conquered the three R's and were entering the mysteries of the second grade when Billy Frase joined then. Billy attended Dixie in the first grade, went pack to Dixie in the third grade, but rejoined us in the fourth, and has remained with us ever since. The fifth grade brought us another new member, Ronald May, who journeyed here from the Pennsylvania Avenue School, Cumberland, Md. No nore nembers of the present class joined until the seventh grade, which found us with four nec cones, Wayne Logsdon and Pat Jenkins coming from Pattersons Creek, where, Wayne spent his first six years. While in school there, he was joined by Pat Jenkins in the fourth grade--Pat having spent his first two years in the Mohegan Graded School, Mo- hegan, West Virginia, and the third year in Davy School, Davy, West Virginia. At the same time, Glenwood Emmart entered from Short Gap, where he had completed the first six years of his schooling. Donald Larson also became one of us when he moved here from Ridgeley, where he especially liked his first grade teacher, Miss Clark. eb eth cate : la : : . ey EP esti slr ni ett ARO Bers ? 4 thea ; TF eon ny ht bint lon etleee eC tei, ] | { ¥ ” La 4 5 7 ik ne. arg tn it 63 ay 4 ee aa er rarer ae aes Pies ™ su a oe aR .
