ET O ine Peto tae ——— ft ve QZ aa wy built on the site of our historic Fort Ashby which was erected } | That is the logical name for a community, town, or city j by order of Colonel Goorge Washington in 1775. Sere English, Scotch-Irish, French, German, Irish----brave, hardy men and women were willing to endure hardships and brave the dangers of the wilderness that they might build homes and secure for themselves and families a foot-hold in this land of promise. erulSsere APS male of + wits Just as this Fort offered security to those heroic pio- neers, so does our Fortress, crowning the hill above the Fort, offer security----a defense against the ignorance and narrow self-seeking by presenting the more abundant life to all the children of all the people. ———y} be pd ew aT OL GEV SV =. Fort Ashby continued to serve as a havon of safety for the settlers of the Patterson Creek Aroa until after the Revolution and later Indian Wars, 1775--1795.
