W v QS.. V- 'wwf if Prior to deploying on FlD's seven month cruise, a multitude of reconstruction took place in Ports- mouth, VA. SRA or Selective Restrictive Availability is known as a mini overhaul , and required the crew to pull together to complete the task successfully. The extensive work package included the painting of the hull, rudder and screw repairs, and massive alterations to FORRESTAUS flight deck and Air- craft Intermediate Maintenance Department to ac- commodate the FIA-18. Several major ship alterations took place including modifications to FORRESTAL's bow catapults, the recabling of all aircraft elevators and the tiling of the berthing and other areas aboard the ship. Replacement of 1,500 feet of fuel oil piping, dry dock work on shaft seals, propellers and rudders, re- pairs to sea valves and important adjustments to the main engines kept the FID sailors busy throughout the cold and tiring days spent in Portsmouth. 28 N
