unlin- Change of Command August 2 1990 In a shipboard ceremony held August 2 1990 Capt Robert S Cole relieved Capt Louis E Thomassy Jr as commanding officer of the USS FORRESTAL Cole a native of West Point N Y entered the Navy 1n September 1963 from the Navy ROTC program Com m1ss1oned after graduatlon from Penn State University he completed flight training and was designated a naval aviator 1n May 1965 Thomassy a native of McDonald Pa served as com mand1ng officer of Forrestal from Feb 23 1989 unt1l August 2, 1990. During his tour, FORRESTAL complet- ed a five-month deployment to the Mediterranean, high- lighted by a visit by President George Bush and participa- tion in numerous naval exercises with various NATO forces and EuropeanfMiddle Eastern allies. FORRES- TAL was also the key participant in the 1989 New York City Fleet Week celebration. Keynote speaker for ceremony was Vice Adm. John K. Ready, Commander Naval Air Forces, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Also on hand for the ceremony was Rear Adm. Richard C. Allen, Commander Carrier Group Six. nv?
