FORRESTAL's Command Master Chief, Aviation Boatswain's Mate Master Chief Jerome Schulman, is one of the most popular 'isaltsw onboard. His ever popular Saturday Night Bingo filled empty hours during FORRESTALls extensive seven month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. The event was always well received and added humor and color to all our lives during the times when our minds dreamed of being home with family and friends. His popular 4'Ask the Chiefw television program covered all the in- tricate facets of operations and duties of personnel onboard FOR- RESTAL. Three times each week the scraggly voiced, crew-cut shipmate broadcasting via the ship's TV system, gave us insights and features on officer and enlisted men's varying jobs. Filled with quaint Hin housen jokes, Master Chief kept us informed and entertain- ed . . . and sometimes in stitches. During MED 3-91, Master Chief Schulman's show took on special significance as he and his chief's mess kept the crew up to date on the deployment and the post- deployment transition to Pensacola. His office phones rang constantly as sailors who heard the latest gossip or 'frumor circulating the mess decks would contact the CMC for confirmation or denial. Within minutes, Schulman would have an answer for the concerned sailor. Keeping pace with the master chief was difficult at best, he could be found throughout the ship talking, listening and always smiling. His yeoman, AN Claramunt, was kept busyjust making sure the hard charger met all his scheduled commit- ments. Master Chief Schulman enlisted in the Navy on August 3, 1954, and served aboard numerous carriers including the USS HANCOCK QCVA-192, USS YORKTOWN CCVA-101, USS BONNE HOMME Richard CCVA-31j, USS KITTY HAWK CCVA-631, and a total of almost 11 years aboard his favorite carrier, the USS FORRESTAL CCV-591. Master Chief Schulman would complete 32 years of active and hon- orable service shortly after FORRESTAL's return from its final op- erational deployment. A fitting finale to a long and fulfilling career. Master Chief, may you always have the wind to your back and fol- lowing seas. God Speed! ABCMCAWD Jerome Schulman 21
