.Nth CAPTAIN T.L. SANDERS EXECUTIVE OFFICER, USS FORRESTAL Captain Tommy L. Sanders was born in St. Louis, Mis- souri, on 24 July 1936. After graduation from Hermann High School, Hermann, Missouri in 1954, he attended the Univer- sity of Missouri from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1959. He subsequently received his commission through the Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island in July 1959. After serving two years in the Heavy Attack Community as an A-3 l3ombardier!Navigator, he was ordered to flight training and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1963. He joined VF-41 after completing the F-4 readiness squad- ron syllabus in VF-101 and made three cruises aboard USS independence including a combat cruise in 1965. ln Octo- ber 1966, Captain Sanders returned to VF-101 as a tactics instructor and Landing Signal Officer for two years of duty prior to entering the Naval Post-Graduate School in 1968. He graduated in December 1969 with a Master of Science degree in Computer System Management. He reported to CVVV-14 as Senior Landing Officer and completed a two- year tour including a combat deployment aboard USS En- terprise. ln May 1973 he reported to VF-142 as the Execu- tive Officer and in June 1974 became the Commanding Officer. Following this command tour, Captain Sanders was assigned with the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washing- ton, D.C. as a personnel manager. ln December of 1977 he was again ordered to VF-101 the F-14 readiness squadron and assumed command in January 1978. Upon completion of this tour, Captain Sanders was ordered to USS Forrestal agdgassumed the duties as Executive Officer in October Captain Sanders' decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, 10 Air Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star. He has flown over 170 combat missions and has accumulated over 3100 flying hours and over 750 carrier arrested landings in the F-4 and F-14.

CAPTAIN CLARENCE E. ARMSTRONG, JR. CQMMANDING oFFlcEn, uss FORRESTAL ICV-591 Captain Clarence E. Armstrong, Jr., a native of West View, Pennsylvania, entered the Navy as an Aviation Cadet in 1955. After receiving his commission and being designat- ed a Naval Aviator, he was assigned to Patrol Squadron TWENTY-CNE at Brunswick, Maine. Following his tour and subsequent duty as a project test pilot at the Naval Air Development Center, Warminster, Pennsylvania, Captain Armstrong transitioned to the Light Attack community. His four squadron tours included two combat deploy- ments to Southeast Asia and culminated with command of Attack Squadron THIPTY-SEVEN. After serving as Attack Training Officer on the staff of the Commander Naval Air Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet, Captain Armstrong commanded Carrier Air Wing SIX, then assigned to USS America QCV- 66J. He has flown over 6,000 hours in more than 50 different models of military aicraft. Captain Armstrong's most recent tours have been as Executive Assistant to Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Naval Forces Europe, stationed in London, and as Commanding Cfficer of USS Concord QAFS-55. Captain Armstrong as- sumed command of USS Forrestal on 19 August 1980. Captain Armstrong has a degree in Engineering Sci- ences from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. His deco- rations include five Distinguished Flying Crosses, 21 Air Medals and three Navy Commendation Medals. Captain Armstrong is married to the former Carol Pob- erts of Kenmore, New York. They reside in Mayport with their two sons, Todd and Andrew.

CAPTAIN E.H. CRABBS EXECUTIVE OFFICER, USS FORRESTAL Captain Edward l-l. Crabbs, a native of l-lague, New York entered the Navy in August 1960 and was commissioned an Ensign in March 1961. After a short assignment with VF- 101, he served as Naval Flight Officer with VF-41 from February 1962 to July 1965. l-lis career also includes tours with Squadrons VF-102, VF-103 and VF-32. Captain Crabbs served in South East Asia between 1968 and 1972 where he flew close to 300 combat missions. Captain Crabbs served as XO and CO with VF-32 during two Mediterranean deployments from December 1975 to June 1978. l-le also worked for COMTACWINGSLANT on special projects before being assigned as Executive Officer on USS Forrestal in May 1981. l-lis decorations include Distinguished Flying Cross Med- als, lndividual Air Medals, Strike Flight Air Medals, Naval Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal and Naval Unit Commendation Medals. l-le also holds the Viet- nam Service Four Star and the Vietnam Cross Cold Star. Captain Crabbs earned a BS from State University of New York College at Oswego and a Post Graduate Degree in Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School. Captain Crabbs is married to the former Mary Fieilly of Warsaw, New York. They have four children, Thomas, Anne, Kathleen, and John and reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia. . . Huggy..
