F ID FAMILY DAY A band, television with six feet wide screens, equipment displays and refresh- ments all made up an enjoyable day at sea for FORRESTAL families on March 21, 1978. An event that brought 2,300 people from near and far began at 0600. While signing in guests could drink coffee and eat donuts provided by S-2 Division and watch the 80,000 ton carrier being pushed away from pier C-2 in Mayport. The special enlarged TV monitors are in Hangar Bay Two with hundreds of chairs to allow our guests to watch not only the departure but also Flight Operations. This proved to be a novel solution to the problems of limited space on vulture's row and the long climb of 11 flights of stairs. QLaddersJ . Each department held static displays of their equipment. Hangar Bay One became an exhibition hall as the Marine Detachment displayed field equipmentg Weapons showed their bombs and rocketsg AIMD had their scopes and electronic test devices and CVW-17 provided an A-7 and F-4.
