On 7 August Forrest Sherman anchored off the coast of Calvi, Corisca. This picturesque town was quite overrun with tourists from all over the world. The luxurious sailboats and yachts were examples of the wealth that was vacationing on the island. For us the prices were very high. What occupied our liberty time there? The beautiful beaches and their scantly clothed female inhabitants. Breathtaking! For two days of our visit heavy weather and high winds hampered the boats on their runs to the beach. Several crewmembers were stranded overnight and had to rough it out in the open due to lack of rooms in any hotel. Besides, nobody could afford a hotel room anyway. Thanks to the French Foreign Legion the stranded people got a warm breakfast the next morning.

Have you ever found yourself wondering what it must be like to live in a place with no air pollution or cars? Sounds too good to be true? Well the place does exist. Venice, Italy is just that place. During the two weeks Forrest Sherman was there it seemed as though the wheel had not been discovered there. Liberty was outstanding. The entire city is a maze of canals and waterways traveled by all types of boats and gondolas. In the center of town is San Marco Square.
