A determined man, he sees the Unitas cruise as a key to diplomatic relations with our brothers in the Southern Hemisphere who must defend themselves against those who would threaten their freedom of the seas. The Admiral's aim is to take an obiective stance regarding maneuvers and effectively supplement the skill of the South American navies. His function as tactical commander for the American task force has provided a valuable exercise in command. cdr.herbert b. kuykendall commanding officer Commander Kuykendall assumed command of USS Forrest Sherman on I4 September l97l following tours of . duty that ranged from staff positions at the Naval War College, Commander, Mine Force, Pacific Fleet, and I Destroyer School, to sea duty aboard destroyers, amphibians and minesweepers.
