H. s. srunfni council One of the chief objectives of Forrest City High School is to teach democracy. In order to give our students practical experience in the ways of democracy, the Student Council organization was in- augurated ten years ago. The Councilis a member of the Dis- trict-Inter-City Council Organization, the State Organization of Student Govern- ment, and the Southern Association of Student Government, and the Southern Association of Student Government. Each year the council takes an active part in these organizations. The Senior Council for 1949-50 has worked conscientiously to provide a bet- ter school for the student body and has sponsored many successfuldrives in be- half of suchworthy causes as: The March of Dimes, clothes for needy families, and the T. B.Drive. The students gave 5100, the most in the history of the school, to the T. B. Drive. Under its direction, the various school organizations have presented weekly programs on the local broad- casting station, thus placing interesting and worth-while phases of our school life before the public. For a number of years the Student Council has had as one of its main ob- jectives the responsibility of sponsoring for the pleasure of the entire school, the Southern Assembly Programs. Another important project of this busy organization has been to furnish a recreation center for F.C.H.S. students. To raise money for this centerjthe Coun- cil sponsoreda Curtis Publication Drive and received 5300. The Junior Council, an organization composed of Junior High students has done some outstanding work this year such aszkeeping the campus clean, spon- soring concessions at basketball games, purchasing films to record school ac- tivities, andbuying vasesfor each class- room. It is hoped that the efforts of the 1949- 50 Student Councils will be an incentive for the greater and better achievements in the future years of F.C.H.S. .lunlun nm Hnn mms cum The purpose of this club is to inspire pupils talented in writing music and art tocreatea place to exhibit their work and to encourage them to go forward in their chosen fields.
