FORK UNION MILITARY ACADEMY q ADVANTAGES Give Your Boy What He Cannot Lose-An Education i 1. TYPE OF ScHooL HE SPIRIT of noble self-sacrifice of the founders of yesterday has made Ijossible the Fork Union Military Academy of today, and has begotten that indefinable something, a spiritual atmosphere that enlivens, ennobles, and uplifts all who come under its influence. The Academy, While under control of Virginia Baptists, is in no way sectarian in its teaching and carries on its roll representatives of all the leading religious denominations. It is a Christian school and instils into its students principles of honor, integrity and right living fitting them for high, i telligent citizenship. Above all, it endeavors to in- culcate the prinpiples that lay the foundation of strong Christian manhood. l While it is absolutely essential that a boy be successful in his academic Work, alschool to accomplish the best must give to a boy that which he cannot find in books. The man must be made as well as the mind trained. Both of these are essential to the highest success in life. i 2. TRAINED TEACHERS ORK UNION MILITARY ACADEMY offers a thorough college preparatory course and also an excellent commercial course. To do first class Work the faculty must be ample and properly equipped. Every instructor in Fork Union Military Academy is a Christian gentle- man, an experienced teacher, and is following teaching as a life profession. We do not employ anyone on our faculty who is using the position as a stepping stone tp some other profession. We are pleased to announce that our faculty cheerfully gives much overtime to cadets needing special assistance, and noieffort is neglected to secure the best endeavor on the part of every student. We believe that teaching is a high calling and making men one of the most exalted privileges in which any man can engage. l Careful physical training, and military discipline are given, thereby equipping our cadets with healthy bodies and Well-disciplined minds. The school plant must meet the needs of our cadets, but fine build- ings and good equipment alone do not make the best school nor should they be a school's best possessions. The personalities a boy meets in the classroom should be the largest asset in eveny educational institution. l19l

FORK UNION MILITARY ACADEMY 3. ACADEMIC EFFICIENCY The first thing in any institution of learning is the academic work accomplished in the student body. Successful work depends on the teacher and the student. Failure cannot be wholly charged to the student nor to the teacher, they succeed together or they fail together. An efficient teacher is essential to the success of any student and a diligent student is essential to the success of any teacher. Our instructors put forth every effort with each cadet to accomplish the largest possible results. To this end we keep actively informed of the daily standing of every student and at the end of each week the class standing in every subject of every lstudent is posted. The teacher knows the weekly standing of his students, and the student himself knows his own standing. Thus it will be readily seen that if a boy is failing in his work it is known from the very start and every method possible is employed to awaken the qadet to his responsibility and opportunity and to encourage him to apply himself in a successful way to his daily task. The president of the school devotes himself in a general way to the business oversight of the school, but more particularly to inculcating high ideals and lofty aims that lead to moral as well as academic achieve- ments on the part bf every cadet. In this work he finds a rich experience in dealing with the student body. The headmaster, with over twenty years experience, devotes his entire time to thelgeneral oversight of the academic work in the school and deals daily with the work of each cadet. In addition, he too is deeply interested in the moral life and high purposes of each student. The Army stqpplies the necessary officers for military training. All their time is devoqed to classroom work and military manoeuvres. The daily routine of the drill is of great value, likewise the military discipline is a distinct advaritage in the making of men. Fork Union Military Academy is a preparatory school offering the highest standard high school curriculum and fitting boys and young men for college and university or for a business career. The value of placing a boy in a good boarding school during his important adolescent years is recognized by all discriminating parents. l 4. DAILY LIFE Idleness and Ignorance are the Two Most Expensive Luxuriesf' CAD Fork Union Military Academy is a twenty-four hour school.
