It is our most sincere hope that this collection which is imputed to us will bring to you many hours of pleasant memories. The Annual staff eso.. A. MCCUTCHAN We,the Student Body of Forgan Public Schoo1s,do sincerely dedicate this 1951 issue of The Bulldog to George A. McCutchan whose diligent and untiring efforts have improved our school system immeasur- ably. The problem of school expansion in our small town he has met squarely and solved energetically. Since his arrival here in 1947 he has greatly improved the school in every department. The grade - libraries have been greatly increased. The industrial arts department has been enlarged and improved, new typewriters have been installed in the commerce room and new sewing machines in the Home Economics room. Both boys and girls have been outfitted in new basketball suits and uniforms have been pur- chased for the Band. In his endeavor to improve the school system of Forgan he has had a new lighting system installed in the school building as well as in the gymnasium. He has had the officefremodeled and has installed personal steel file cabinets for the teachers in all the class rooms. He has also had the hall floors covered with in- laid linoleum. GEORGE A. MCCUTCHAN Superintendent Forgan Public Schools His latest and greatest effort was the promoting of the construction of a new front on the gymnasium within which has been installed the lunch room, rest rooms for men and women and storage space for commodities. It is, of course, common knowledge that he did not perform the work, but it was through his untiring efforts that the task was promoted, supervised and completed. 4 Students and Graduates of Forgan School: I consider it an honor and privilege to be asked to write these few words of encouragement and admonition to you. The members of the annual staff have put forth much ef- fort in this production and are to be commended for their work. At the time of this writing our nation is in much peril. Many of our young men are again being called to bear arms to defend our country and way of life. This makes the individual's future very uncertain and somewhat disheartening. I am sure, if we as individuals exercise the rights that have been granted us under a democratic form of government, such as voting, free speech, and freedom to worship God, we will survive this ordeal. No nation can forget God and long exist as a free nation. Let us as young men and women keep this great truth! Sincerely, Merrill Kerns FW!- w I-- ,Y I, - 14 , W -- J 'f av ' , 2 . . I I S ig,-'. . E ,gr 1 r 'E ' G ,,','J PAT GARVIN CLASS HISTORY On a bright September morning in the year of our Lord, 1947, six buds of genius were wavering on the steps of the F.H.S. They were namely: Donahope Nance, Yvonne Mayo, Hellen Nelson, Lillie Ann Bilbro, Earl Neese and Joe Radcliff. A kindly superintendent, George McCutchan, rescued them from the withering glare of upper classmen and led them to the office where they were enrolled in the various classes being taught. After enduring a few days of very frightening experiences and being compelled to wear the most absurd costumes, they were given the name of "green freshmen," and were allowed to go their way in peace, being pursued only by the Demons: Study and Test. The few bright spots in their lives were basketball, band and Glee Club. They enjoyed basketball games at home and away and had the privilege of marching with the band at public gatherings such as band festivals and county fairs. ln due course they reached the high hurdle called final exams, which they all managed to clear by a hair's breadth. After a short breathing spell, called summer vacation, they again assembled at F.H.S. Their ranks had been somewhat depleted. Dan Cupid claimed Donahope Nance as a victim of his arrow. Other worldly things called l-lellen Nelson, but they were replaced by Elzay Caywood, Charles Sallee, Bud Odneal and Pat Garvin. They were now given the more desirable and distinguished name of sophomores. Having had experience and having been tempered to endurance, they joyfully handed their superior knowledge down to a new crop of freshmen and gleefully watched them squirm in their wierd costumes and make-up. But they were again confronted with the monster Study, and had it not been for the patience and guidence of their teachers, they would no doubt have fallen by the wayside, but by constant and careful pushing they again arrived at the dreaded hurdle, final exams. Surprisingly, they cleared it, and with happy hearts greeted another well deserved summer vacation. On a hot August morning, with much more assurance than before, the group, Joy Boydston, Yvonne Mayo, Lillie Ann Bilbro, Pat Garvin, Jo Ann Kirkpatrick, Joe Rad- cliff, Bud Odneal, Earl Neese, Elzay Caywood and Tommy Brackeen enrolled at F.H.S. They were now known as juniors and were accorded rnuch more respect by their teachers and fellow students. As is natural, there was some envy and bickering about which ones should have the honor of being class president, vice-president and secretary. Finally they elected Earl Neese as president, Joe Radcliff as vice-president and Lillie Ann Bilbro as secretary and treasurer. Cupid again fired his bow into their ranks, this time claiming Joy Boydston, Yvonne Mayo and Tommy Brackeen, both adventurous, left their midst soon after Cupid had abducted Joy. Everyone then settled down to meet and overcome, if possible, the old and not forgotten pest, Study. fContinued on Page 555 CLASS WILL Friends and colleagues, I have called you to assemble here as a solemn duty, that you, the heirs and assigns of my respected client, the class of 1951, may hear her last will and testament which, as her legal advisor, I drew, as directed by her, immediately prior to her passing from our midst. - It was her intentions and would have been her great pleasure to present you person- ally with these token of her esteem, but she found it impossible since her last days were so occupied with social engagements and dates not so social, but of great importance to the future, which she was obliged to keep with various members of the faculty. On these occasions such foreign and unexpected questions were addressed to her, and im- mediate answer writing being required, that the strain left her too weary for further effort With the above legitimate excuse in mind, if any slight discrepancies or apparent injustice or partiality should appear to you in the distribution of her effects, I trust you will pardon it and realize it is caused, not only from exhaustion, but also from slight mental instability. May I, as well as my lamented client, intreat that you receive your respective legacies in the spirit of unselfish friendship in which they were given? ITEM--We give and bequeath freely and without reservation or stipulations, to the Junior Class, our rightful heirs, and to their heirs and assigns forever, our most important and valued properties, viz. , our self-satisfaction, our profound wisdom, our outstand- ing record of achievement to be found in the archives of the school building, and any boy or girl we may have left behind in our hasty departure. ITEM--To our good friends, the Sophomore Class, we leave our patience. It will be found useful as the only means by which they can endure the Juniors. ITEM--To the young, tender, and unsophisticated Freshmen of next year we leave a map of the school building so that they will not get lost and roam around in everyone's way. We include with the map our little book entitled "How to Tell the Teachers," a pamphlet compiled by us after 4 years of arduous study. The legatees will notice that this book is not WHAT to te ll the teachers, but HOW. Plays, basketball, baseball, band and glee club claimed much of their precious and valuable time. It slipped by so quickly that before they were hardly prepared for it, they were again at the end of the year and confronted by, the now not so terrifying monster, Final Exams. On August 28, 1950, the day they will never forget, eight happy boys and girls, Joe Radcliff, Bud Odneal, Earl Neese, Elzay Caywood, Lillie Ann Bilbro, Pat Garvin, Jo Ann Kirkpatrick and Hellen Nelson again met in the halls of F.H.S, Now they were full of confidence! Of course they were not conceited, but after three years of successfully coping with their nemesis, Study, they felt they were sure to defeat him, in their last year in high school. They again launched an all out campaign on the old enemy and with the full co-operation of their always patient teachers they were able to keep him at bay. As spring grew near there was some restlessness among the seniors, who were anxious to get out and spread their wings in a new and different way of life. The history of the individuals of the Class of '51 is soon to flow into the great stream of human progress. While we record events and experiences in our lives we must record in our midst the presence of a feeling of gratitude for those who fought in the struggle for justice and truth, for in these virtues, there is peace and freedom. At this hour we eight Seniors wish most to express the gratitude we feel for what you, our parents, our friends, and our teachers have done for us. fContinued from Page 351 It will be noticed that although we have left bequests to the Junior Class, soon to be Seniors, to the Sophomores, soon to become Juniors and to those who will, in the fall, become Freshmen, we have made no mention of the present Freshmen . class which will be known as the Sophomore Class in a few months. We have left them nothing, because by that time their self-esteem and evaluation will have attained such heights that nothing in our possession could be regarded by them as worthy of their distinction. Earl wills his ability to grow a beard to Keith Lane. Lillie wills her short-curly hair to Marietta. Bud wills his ability to keep his nose out of other people's business to Ronald Holder. Io Ann wills her giggle to anyone who wants it. Bookworm Joe wills his ability to study to Kathyrn Boates.
