DEDICATION Wm. gum
Mr. Jones says his secret ambition, for a long time, has been to run for the presidency. Al-
though his 1960 campaign was not successful, all 308 F.L.A, students would have voted for him.
For forty years, Mr. Jones has inspired his students as he has taught them in his classrooms.
His attractive wife, Hettie, has been by his side to inspire him in his work.
Forest Lake Academy has been fortunate to have had him here for ten years, teaching English
and History to a total of approximately 1,800 students.
Young people, present and past, have complained about his assignmentsg laughed uproariously
at his endless jokesgstudied diligently to earn one of his A'sg and absorbed Csome more, some lessj
the wisdom he so generously imparts.
The F,L.A. students of 1960 unanimously vote for Mr. Jesse Jones as the man of our choice for
the dedication of our MIRROR because of his successful, sacrificial life given whole-heartedly to us.

MESSAGES FRO
In these days, when distances are shrinking and man is giving much attention to the conquest
of space, a Christian can look forward to the time when space will no longer separate him from his
Creator. To see the Saviour face to face will be the ultimate victory over space.
Before this goal can be a reality, a much nearer space must be conquered--the innerlspace that
has given man trouble since Eden. This difficult space to conquer is the unconverted human heart.
The most important task of Christian Education is to subdue this wayward member and to bring it
under the control of the Master of space and matter.
Forest Lake Academy's long and excellent record of providing the type of education that helps
youth conquer this space will prove itself again in the Seniors of 1961. Seniors, as you go forth to
either further your education or to take up your life's work, always remember the Christian prin-
ciples taught and remain true to them. May you always persevere in your quest to give Christ that
inner space of your. hearts, and eventually outer space will be conquered and you shall see Christ
face to face.
6 --William Fuchs
A very wise man once made this observation: "Ideals are like stars--we never reach themg
but, like the mariners on the sea, we chart our course by them."
These words, I believe, represent quite clearly what we feel toward Forest Lake Academy.
The ideals and the principles by which we seek to set our lives and purposes are held forth by our
Academy--its teachers and students and board of trustees--as a beacon light for all youth to follow.
As this ideal is sought, it not only prepares youth for meeting the responsibilities of this present
existence, but also to find a place in Heaven. May this ever be the aim of Forest Lake Academy.

Foculty Progrom
On one hilarious Saturday night the faculty presented a program in which a play, "The Little Red
Schoolhouse," was featured. Mrs. Wright played the teacher, Mary Bronson, who was constantly
harried by a roomful of incorrigible students, and finally badgered by Ferdinand's mother, played
by Mrs. Kirstein.
Also featured during the evening was a German
band--Mr. Olsen, Mr. Peterson, Elder Pogue, Mr. Olsen playedacornet solo fora rapt audience
Miss Robbins, Mr. Blotz, Mr. Fuchs. --theyhad not known he could play so exquisitely.

and the faculty men proved their superior-

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
Choosing a lifework is one thing, but choosing a place to
train for that chosen career is something else. For the true
Christian, the choice is harder than usual. He needs Chris-
tianityto placea common bond among the various courses he
must take. Yet, no student wants an education in a college
with sub-par scholastic standards. He wants a school with
high ideals--physical, spiritual, and intellectual. If he is wise
he will choose the "School of Standards."
