Q.-.x fn- Z IlIIIW f s,o r sv K f M E XXV I X . lllltxgis' S xx Q Si 9' IW Ie. fs- A MESSAGE T0 THE GRADUATES Dear Seniors: K No longer do we think of your education merely as the sum of the courses entered on your record card. xv What makes your schooling unique and significant is the era in which it has taken place. Other classes l seem to have attended school in periods of calm. It has been your lot to attend school in an era of tur- , Q. '-4 moil, strife, and crisis, both international and domestic. Studies and polls clearly confirm that students today 5 are involved in the world about them as much as the adults. In some way, this is a new phenomenon for E American youth. It is obvious that these conditions have not only influenced your formal studies but have also E S ' affected your outlook and future plans. E The success of your high school education must, therefore, be measured by your growth as human 3 N , beings, and by your preparedness to pursue your goals in the world of reality. E E' 5 It is to these ends that your high school experiences were directed. During your stay at FOREST HILLS, you shaped many of your values of life. I have observed with approval the way in which you have increasingly dnlbl used the processes of reason in reaching your iudgments. You have proven yourselves to be self-reliant in your a individual and group activities. Your daily life in school and in the community evidenced your regard for others. l ill! Your indignation against iniustice has characterized your thinking. You are living the democratic way of life. .....- lt is to your credit that you have achieved a mature perspective. Your schooling has consisted of a wide s V diversity of activities. Your studies ranged from the abstract mathematics to the concrete studies of the prac- W -1 tical arts, from the humanities to the sciences, and from courses for leisure time living to courses for earn- 9 gg ing a livelihood. You have prepared yourselves for full and meaningful lives f lf X The transition you are about to make into the world of higher education or of work is paralleled by the V E transition a world in crisis may be taking. You have the task and opportunity to shape both. Your faith in your- hs selves and in the future, I know, is well founded. 5 Sincerely, ' ' .
