BCDYS' SPCDRTS lforest Hills High Sthool is tour years old. Iforest Hills' sports have also heen in existente four years, In the first issue ot' the lieawfzz there appeared on the sports page the following headline: H1155 triumphs over 1154. 16-1 if' Some of the outstanding ha--keteers in this thrilling tilt were Andrew Asheoin. Alvin lialahan, lfrank Curry, Dusty Mazarin. Stan Margolis. -latk Lipworth, and lioh Smyth. The names of the partitipants in this haskethall intramural are all familiar. 'l hey are the memhers ot' the senior Llass ot' '-ii. These students set the pace for seniors who rose from the ranks to represent lforest Hills High on the tinders, on the haskethall tourt, on the fairway. in sotter. and in every other phase of Tri-tolor sports. livery senior tlass seems to he espetially protitient in one spetifit sport, In the elass ot' 715 no less than six seniors are important eogs in Mr. Everard's tratk squad. Xlfith suth stars as Lou Alvarez, .Ioe Catioppo. Lew Cieer, and 'lay Keil paving the way. the team finished third and seventh in the Queens and tity thampionship meets respettively in 19111. The varsity will miss these lads when tratk prattite hegins in the spring. The eross tountry team had an exceptionally hright future last fall when live memhers of the '-13 squad returned. lfive meets were scheduled for the hoys. and they worked hard to hring home a thampionship to lforest Hills. Leading the parade of tratk and cross tountry stars was Lew Geer. ln 19-i-4 Lew reathed the peak of his tareer when he won the N.Y,A.CQ. noviee tham- pionship in the mile. Clomhining hrains with hrawn, Lew is not only tops on the tinders. hut is also the hoy leader ot' Arista. There is no douht that in Lew Geer. lforest Hills has given to the traek world for further development our third good runner. He ranks with Homer Davis and Phil Sonnehorn. hoth former traekmen for lforest Hills High Sthool. -loe Caeioppos position on the track team was to garner the shotput. If you have ever tried to complete this task, you know that only a man of ,loe's physical proportions tan do it. For the heneht of the girls who may read this eolumn, a shotput is merely a twelve pound hall whieh must he heaved at least thirty-tive feet. Now you have an idea of the tapahilities of joe Cacioppo. jay Keil is one of the hest reasons why the memhers of Mr. Spatas staff should spend their efforts in organizing intramurals, for it was in the track intramurals of 19-13 that jay was discovered. It was then that Keil surprised every onlooker hy jumping 5 ft. si in. He outiumped every memher of the squad of 713 and immediately heeame a memher ol' the team. -lay was also a good hurdle man, plating fifth in the tity linals as a hurdler, last season.
