F. H. went to Canton the next week and annihilated the mighty Panthers, 34-6, before a bi-partisan crowd and moved within one-half game of the North LDC leader, Morton. Led by the plunging fullback, Rusty Bridges, and the speedy Rebel halfback, Travis Eld-ridge, the Rcbs scored time after time while their opponents could muster only one score. Hosting the Forest Bearcats the next week, the Rebels humiliated them with a victory of 21-0 and bolstered their season record to a 5-1-1 tally and our record to 3-0-1. Outstanding for F. H. were Harry Edwards and Harry Searcy. At homecoming the following week the Rebs blasted the Florence Eagles by a score of 42-2, in a game which was completely dominated by F. H. Billy Parker leads interference as Herbert Stewart returns another kickoff against Florence. H. Rebels continued their jinx over the St. Joseph Rebs by whipping the Jacksonians 24-6, at St. Joe's Stadium. The visitors speedy halfback Travis Eldridge scored 3 of the Rebels 4 touchdowns while rushing 60 yards. At the Rebs next game, F.H. edged out determined Pearl in the first L. D. C. game of the season for both by a score of 6-0. John Chastain's reception of 7 passes led the Rebs to this hard fought victory. In a most decisive offensive battle, the Rebs tied the favored Brandon Bulldogs by a score of 13-13. Although there were many fine pass receptions by Billy Bones Parker and Larry Crawford, the Rebs could not pull out a victory. Quarterback Harry Searcy successfully executes another yard-gaining play against the Canton Panthers. 100

Who's got the ball! same night, a loss by Morton to Brandon put the Rebels of F. H. one half game away from first place. After completely annihilating Florence, Forest Hill took on powerful Morton in a battle which proved to be the most crucial game of the season. Although the determined Rcbs fought a hard battle, the Panthers were the victors by a score of 7-6. Following a well-spent open week, the Rebs, highlighted by Rusty Bridges, gained a 19-13 victory over arch rival Clinton with a 67-yard TD--one of three--to end a successful season with a 7-2-1 record. As a reward for the fighting spirit which the Rebels displayed during the season, they received a bid to meet mighty Rolling Fork in the colorful Red Carpet Bowl. F.H., pictured as David, did not overcome their oversized opponent, referred to as Goliath, as David did in the well-known Biblical talc. Although there were many exciting moments when the Rcbs almost scored, they could not cross the goal line as the Colonels defeated F.H. 6-0. Managers: Buddy Lindamood, Mike Knight, John Matthews. 102
