Hampered by limited experience, their ’‘scrawny” size, and numerous injuries later in the season, the 1964 Rebel Football squad overcame tremendous obstacles and pulled a surprise 7-2-1 Little Dixie Conference record out of the bag. Picked to finish sixth in pre-season polls, the Rebels, encouraged by a rousing pep club, driven by their ”grit and determination” and led by five outstanding seniors, finished in second place, only one-haIf game behind Morton, the North Little Dixie Champs. Much of this success has been inspired by one of the finest coaching staffs in the state. This capable group, composed of Coaches Tom Cheney, Jerrell Purvis, and Bill Durr, has brought Forest Hill another successful season in football.
