PUBLISHED ANNUALLY
BY THE ANNUAL STAFF OF FOREST HIGH SCHOOL
FOREST, LOUISIANA
ic do
"With unrelenting crescendo, the symphony of a life replete with melodic pro-
gressions, hastens to its finale. And a friendship that is ours to share, with
its "largos" and its "allegros"moves everlasting, onward, in sweet memories."
Truly, the school system of West Carroll Parish is progressive largely be-
cause of the untiring leadership and interest of Mr. O. E. Huey who served
effiCie!l!1Y as Superintendent of Parish Schools for twenty-five years. The
teachers, pupils, and the Annual Staff of the Forest High School feel deeply in-
debted to him for his cooperation, his understanding, and his inspirational man-
ner in dealing with problems that arose from time to time. As a manifestation of
this appreciation, we dedicate this edition of The Forester to him, feeling that
a friendship has been established that will "move everlastingg onward, in sweet
memories."

To -the Students of Forest High School:
lou, young ladies and young men, are the future citizens
of tomorrow, the women and men who will lead the community in
all its endeavors, protect the rights of the people, make the
laws, improve the roads, build churches, build schools, es-
tablish homes and educate the children. Surely you have heard
this before, but do not take it too lightly because it is a
significant fact.
Tne preparation you are making today, the habits you are
forming, the attitudes you are embedding and the growth you are
making in your ability to adjust yourselves, even though your
wishes are not met, will determine to a very large degree your
Success in handling the affairs of tomorrow.
We are proud of Forest High School and appreciate the
fact that it is growing as an institution of learning, but it
cannot continue unless the students who attend the school grows
The school will be no better than the boys and girls who attend
the school. We all recogxize the fact that the school is a
product of community cooperation with students, parents and
teachers all working together for a better school.
You, students, are the salesmen for the school. You rep-
resent the best that Forest High School can do and the adult
citizenry judge the worth of the School by your worth to soc-
iew. Letfs keep awake, let's be up and about our job for
'the night cometh when no man can work' . I

People do not accidentally make contributions to society. This results only from
concentrated effort, and the use of the talents with which an all-wise God has endowed
the individual. fThe desirable attributes of one who contributes to the success and
happiness of his associates must be cultivated before they become a part of that indi-
vidual.J He must learn to live, to love, and to share. Mrs. Myra Harlan was well-versed
in all these.
She will always be remembered for her contributions to the boys and girls of yester-
day, the men and women of today. Her efforts to improve the scholastic standing of the
school, the educational status of the community and the moral standards of all can never
be measured.
As a classroom teacher she placed the welfare of the child first, ever being loyal
to all, co-workers, children and parents. No problem was ever too big not a responsi-
bility to great for her courage could not be surpassed. Because of this characteristic
she was never free from the cares of school and community. Leading in extra curri-
cular activities, directing plays, keeping the lunch room books and accounting for state
and federal monies and coaching junior basketball girls were some of the extra responsi-
bilities you could find Mrs. Harlan assuming in addition to classroom duties.
Her very busy life at school did not keep her from attending the church services
and performing her duties as a good christian.
Surely she was one of those who could lay down the cares of this life with a "well
done thou good and faithful servant" and leave behind an influence that can never be
forgotten.
