The six dollar man, Mark. The low rider, David. On your mark . . . Get set . . . GO! I! And the Gator track team is off and running! At the starting line for the sprints stand speedsters Lawrence and Pooter Rabbit. Dexter and Mark are loosening up for the relay with a vision of victory in their minds. Wayne's got his mind on two things - hurdles and the 440 relay, but at least he knows he's got help on the relay from Too Tall. For Ray and Worm, the mile run s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s ahead. Pete decides he's got the stuff to hack the 440. Dean and Stan KNOW for hopel they've got this 880 dash licked. Two miles is a long, long way, but Bill and Wade are sure they can take it. Rod looks at the other pole vaulters to size them up, and sizes favorably. These hardworking guys lost the district title by a mere four points to Dierks, but Wayne Watlington and Willis Smith Chigh point men at the district meetj, Dean Klug, Rod Mclilhannon, Lawrence Cursh, Dexter is Rendall learns what E:mc2 means - ENERGY. Dunn, David Daniels, and Pete Johnson got to enter the state finals in Arkadelphia in both individual and team events. Now are we great? Heyyy! I ! The senior high girls' track team was out on the track running, panting, hurdling, sweating, throwing, and seeing double when track season opened , and their efforts showed. Altogether, these twelve girls ran the 880, 440, and mile relays, the 220 and 100 yard dashes, the hurdles, and threw the shot and the discus. At the state track meet in Arkadelphia, the relay team, consisting of Venita, Versia. and Georgia, and Renee, set two new records of 52.6 in the 440 and 1:51 in the 880. Sheila was second in the shot put and Versia won the 220 dash in a record setting time of 26.9. The team as a whole came in third in State, but they have a good shot at it next year, and they will DO IT - TO IT! On your mark . . . Get set . . . GO! ! Well, it's not my fault! claims Renee. Let me see if I can land on that bug down there. says Versia . 75
