Unable to overcome obstacles . one
Red River and Little River meet,
Just like the states when our nation vas young
Uniting to overcome defeat.
Bounding our county on two sides,
They give a thought to all:
Together we can overcome

Little River County was organized March 5, 1867, by an act of the State Legislature of
Arkansas. Its 546 square miles are as different as its people, for Little River County's terrain
is made up of hills and bluffs, marshes, prairies and alluvial bottomland. Little River and
Red River join to form the north, east and south boundary, while the Oklahoma State line
serves as the west county line. The area of White Cliffs, which is located on the north side
of Little River, is included in Little River County. The two rivers form about four-fifths of
the length of the boundary line surrounding the county. Little River County's interesting
heritage and colorful population make an entertaining study for the native, immigrant, or
tourist.
Little River County has a population of approximately twelve thousand people. About
1,371 of these people live in Foreman. Of the 1,371, 770 attend Foreman Schools. Approx-
imately 308 of these students live inside Foreman's city limits. The other 462 live in outly-
ing communities as shown below.

The daughters of the American Rev-
olution fD.A.R.J is an organization of
women directly descended from per-
sons who aided in establishing Ameri-
can independence. D.A.R. programs
promote appreciation of the past,
patriotic service in the present, and
educational training for the future. It
encourages the study of American his-
tory and maintains relics and records
of early history.
Each year a senior girl is chosen
from each town as a citizen of D.A.R.
This year Denise Beasley was honored
with the D.A.R. Good Citizen Award
by the Paraclifta Chapter of the
D.A.R. She was selected by the fac-
ulty for her qualifications of leader-
ship, dependability, service, and
patriotism.

A TEACHER'S PRAYER
A sculptor took a piece of clay
And molded perfectly
The figure of a Little Child,
So beautiful to see:
But when I held it in my hand,
No warmth of life was there
Its cold, unchangeless beauty
Was all that it could share.
God sent a little child to me
That I might supervise
The teaching that would satisfy
The wonder in his eyes:
And when I took his little hand
To guide him on the way
I felt the warmth of trust and love
He shares with me each day.
"And so, dear God, I come to thee,
In all humility ,
To ask for wisdom , strength and Love
That I may always be
The kind of teacher who can help ,
In some kind, loving way,
To mold a better, stronger child
With every passing Day. "

To belong to the ,National Honor Society is an honor that comes to only about fifteen percent of the student
body. Membership is based on a student's LEADERSHIP, SCHOLARSHIP, CHARACTER, and SERVICE. The
members are selected by a vote of the faculty. The purpose of the society is not only to recognize these stu-
dent's achievements, but also to provide certain projects within the school with funds. Its income is derived
from the operation of a Lance products vending machine and from the sales of school supplies to the students.
All the students have certainly enjoyed the covered walkway from the classroom building to gym, especially on
RAINY days. This was the latest project on which NHS has helped.

Keep that spirit up! ! Now go out there and get em' l '
Though they had only a few two-party games and had to play mostly
among themselves, this year's pee wee athletes were just as willing and
ready to play as if they were playing on the varsity squads. Sometimes
we overlook the little guys and gals who get out there and work hard to
prepare themselves for a game, and we do not recognize their contrib-
utions. These youngsters are perhaps more prone to tolerate criticism
than the older athletes, despite their energetic nature. This attitude is
hopefully the seed to a good crop of future Gators.

2 In Ir. High Athletics, we get our first taste of serious com-
petition. Games are still won with all-out joy, but they are
now filled with contemplation and thoughts for improve-
ment. Sportsmanship, as well as character, is further devel-
oped.
With a 7-1 record, this year's Ir. Football team
proved themselves able to play with the best. Who
knows - this could very well be the 1979 State Champi-

Homecoming 'week was an active one for all of the FHS students. Everyone was
getting ready for the annual Homecoming events destined for Friday. For the
football boys, there was the wonder of who would have the honor of being cap-
tain. Eleven girls were busy getting their dresses ready and their nerves calm
. for one of them - and only one - would be the Queen. Mrs. Be1anger's
cheerleaders were working day and night, trying to get their main project
together. For the whole student body, there was floatmaking and various prepa-
rations for the parade. The people of the town were reminded once again of past
homecomings - the excitement, nostalgia, and just plain fun that goes along
with FHS .
Finally, the big day was here. Rehearsals and decorations were completed,
and everyone was able to take a few breaths before the festivities began.
This year, we were reminded with the participation of Mr. Joe Olive Wilson,
representing the alumni, that Homecoming is more than a beauty or popularity
contest. It was origionally meant to be a time when all the alumni come home
and are reminded of times long
past. Hopefully, in years to come,
we will reflect back and think of the
1975 Homecoming as a TRUE
HOMECOMING.

Being a cheerleader sponsor is a
lot of work and worry, as Mrs. Len
Belanger has found out in the past
several years. We would like to
express our thanks to her for taking
on the responsibility of a year-round
cheerleading squad. Without dedi-
cated, trustworthy personnel, a lot
of worthwhile projects would have
to be neglected.

Track coach - Richard Kitchens
Held in the hot sun, when the swimming hole is more
inviting, track sometimes suffers for being the last and
least publicized sports event of the school year. It was
originally designed as a sort of spring training for the
football and basketball athletes. The coaches have a
hard time making these boys realize that track is to con-
dition instead of torture them. In the long run, the ben-
efit that is reaped is well worth the effort.
So we salute these guys for setting aside glory, toward
the betterment of next year's Alligators, as well as
themselves. This is the kind of dedication needed to
make a winning team, a fulfilled person, and a success-
ful future .

T hroughout the year the extra moments that greeted the Foreman students during the day, and even after school,
became prized moments. They found the minutes between classes a time for friends, friendly glances and an occasional
coke. The lunch hour gave students a chance for conversation and relaxation. After school the freedom widened and the
Foreman students scattered from band practice to football games, from dates to meetings, and from running around to
home again.

Sure you can work out a traffic system
with just one telephone. Or at least you
can try. But a separate teen telephone
doesn't cost very much. A few baby sitting
jobs will pay for it. Their own phone is
great for the teens and a welcome relief
for their parents. You'll wonder why you

"Possibly it is impossible to move forward without leaving something behind , but let's try to retain the best
of the old and the good of the new. " - Harris Saunders
ln 197 6 , Saunders Leasing Systems have a double cause for celebration. In addition to their nations
Bicentennial, they are celebrating the birth of their company and of the vehicle renting and leasing industry.
It was sixty years ago that Joe Saunders originated the idea of renting cars and trucks for an hour or a few
miles, and started not only Saunders System but the car and truck renting industry . The first Saunders System
was in Omaha, Nebraska, with Model 9 Fords in 1916 .
What was once a little company is now a nationwide leader in the truck renting and leasing industry with 105
branches in 22 states and Canada.
Mr. Harris Saunders said, "I would like to believe that there is one thing that will never change - the idea of
service to the customers and to all with whom we associate. "
Above is an example of one of the many ways Saunders served us this year.
