The Foreman Chapter of the National Honor Society was
instituted in l936 under the sponsorship of Miss Cecilia Costello. It
has since been taken over by Miss Virginia Cavoit.
This organization was formed for the purpose of recognizing
students who are outstanding in scholarship, service, leadership, and
character. The activities of the Society are numerous. In the past years
it has sponsored many entertaining programs and it has recently taken
an active role in the annual alumni night.
The National Honor Society opens the door to further aplvanve-
ment for the individual. lt cultivates initiative, integrity, and the ima
portance of working together, those qualities which lead to success.

The reading club combines a period of leisure reading with enjoyable companion-
ship. Dramas, short stories, poems, novels, essays, current news, editorials, sport reviews,
fashion notes, all provide interesting reading. With either a magazine or a book each
member curls up in an imaginary easy chair and reads to his heart's content.
The Spanish club is organized for purely cultural purposes and engages in activi-
ties such as folk singing, the showing of movies, and general discussions on the Spanish
Civilizations, their customs, manners, and way of life.

The "Grammarcy Five," a group of Foreman musicians, was actually
starred several years back by three of the members, namely, jack Dorin, john
Suffka, and Bob Gall.
Finding success working together at private affairs, the three decided
to get a small band together to ply for the school dances.
After hard work and several changes, the band is now known as the
'Grammarcy Fivef' and has as members jack Dorin, who is leader and sax-

The musical genius of tomorrow can easily be found in Foreman's band for
the basic training received every day will prove a delinite help in preparing students
for an outside career in music.
Although the orchestra has been dis continued, a large response is expected
in September, when again, under the leadership of Captain Reid, they will pour
forth music and rhythm.

A Polish Village Wedding was presented by the Polish classes of

Scenes of the "Blessing," "Merry-makingf' "Showers of Silver,"

The annual "Book Week" tea was given for the faculty, with members of

The messengers, an organization for service rather than social activity, is
sponsored by the Student Council. Each period during the day, boys and girls give
up their study period to sit beside the telephone in room 126, ready to answer any
calls. These messengers deliver messages for the teachers only within the school
building. The students are awarded points toward a service letter for this activity.

Beginners and advanced knitters work together to achieve results in the
short time allotted to the Knitting Club, under the sponsorship of Miss Cleveland.
Results range from the tiniest of baby sweaters, socks and mittens, to an average-
sized girl's sweater. No talent or skill is required. Good fellowship and patience
are the reward.
The purpose of the club is to help and encourage boys and girls who are in-
terested in various types of handwork. Many of the projects are unfinished items
that were started in Scout work Y '
, or grammar school. We welcome suggestions and
new projects and hope to extend our activities to more projects as time goes on.

"A rocket-ship to the moon? Well, not today, but, perhaps, not
too far in the future," say the officers of Foreman's Star Gazers' Club.
Having to postpone that trip, the club members went to the Adler
Planetarium and visited outer space by proxy. Movies on astronomical
subjects, a quiz program, and a farewell party were some of the activities
enjoyed at the club meetings. The great observatories, such as Mr. Palo-
mar and Mt. Wilson were discussed, and star diagrams helped the mem-
bers to become acquainted with the "friendly stars."

"Hail to thee our Alma Materf' The blended voices of Foreman's
choir, under the direction of Captain Guy Reid, fill the room with melodious
harmony. This year's choir, composed of approximately fifty members, has
learned such favorites as "The Lordls Prayer," "Alma Mater," "The Green
Cathedral," and "By the Bend of the River." The choir, established sixteen
years ago, is still a "must" for any student who appreciates music and enjoys
singing.
The Choir's time is divided up into listening to records, learning new
songs, and practice. This practice plus the desire to create something beautiful
is one of the many reasons why Foreman is proud of its choir.

The club membership is composed of advanced printing students who dut-

attendance books. The boys publish a monthly club bulletin for members only en-
titled, "Poor Richard's Almanac." One of the outside activities enjoyed by all the
members is to collect cartoons to be made into scrap books and given to the Dis-

Boys and girls who belong to the Projector Club operate pro-
jectors for various teachers in the school and earn service points for
their work, one point for each ten periods of service. After four semes-
ters, a projector school letter is awarded and a small star added to the
letter for each additional semester of service. These letters are financed
by the Science Departments.
Meetings are held every two weeks at regular school club
periods. At these meetings problems are discussed concerning the
proper care and use of projectors, screens and slide projectors, and the
schedule for regular and irregular times for operating projectors. Mem-

One of the outstanding events is the Christmas

Accidents constantly occur to people in all walks of life from the
cradle to the grave. Many of them must be taken care of immediately in the
absence of a physician if serious consequences or even death is to be avoided.
It is to give the students of Foreman the necessary knowledge in the proper
handling of the injured that the First Aid Club was organized.
Among the more important injuries for which the club imparts the
necessary knowledge and technique are cuts and bruises, fractures and disloca-
d poisons, and those injuries such as drowning which require

The primary function of the Student Council is to serve as the link
which binds the faculty and student body in closer cooperation, fellowship,
and mutual respect. There are representatives from each division with an
equal vote in all decisions. Ufhcers are elected by the entire student lzody.
The Council carries out a program of social activities throughout the
year which includes a dance that is always an outstanding success.
Using parliamentary procedure as its guide, the members of the Council
build toward better citizenship of the students by participation in school or-
ganizations and planning for projects that will enrich and extend extra-
curricular activities.

poise and grace to meet business and social obligations, is the ideal of the Self Improve-

Mr. Snodgrass, the capable sponsor, gives lectures on this pertinent problem in
an amiable manner, making the club period an enjoyable experience for the populous
membership.

Each school day during the fifth, sixth, and seventh periods Foremanites hurry
to the lunchroom in search of nourishment for their famished bodies.
The lunchroom offers wholesome food: each meal scientifically balanced to pro-
vide one-third of the daily requirements. These meals are all priced at attractive rates
for the students.
A capable staff, headed by Mrs. H. Schuetzner, prepares four or five completely
different meals daily, and is kept busy planning for each week's meals.
For the students who bring their lunch, bottle milk is sold at a very low price,
and soft drinks, ice cream, and candy can also be bought within the lunchroom.

Only those boys receiving an "F" athletic letter for outstanding athletic
ability are admitted into the Lettermen's Club. They are required to take the
following pledge, "We, the members of the Lettermen's Club, hope through
this organization to further the athletic standards of our school. We will never
bring disgrace upon out through any unsportsmanlike conduct."
Since the formation of the club in 1939, the members have lived up
to the high standards of this pledge, and this year's club is no exception.
The Lettermen's Club has also directed many social functions through
the worlc of its members and their sponsor.

The G.A.A. has become an
important organization in Foreman,
with its athletic and social func-
tions providing much enjoyment.
The membership of the Girls
Athletic Association is merely one
hundred per cent, proving this or-
ganization has succeeded in inter-
esting many girls in its athletic and
social activities.
The G.A.A. Board of Con-
trol, composed of a group of
elected girls, headed by its oliicers
has done excellent work in the or-
ganization of activities for G.A.A.
members. They have assumed the
responsibilities of the club, which
range from dances and luncheons
to intramural games, bowling and
splash parties. Its scope of activi-
ties is large, and will continue to
enlarge as more girls join this
organization.
