IUHIOI Varslty Basketball
When lunior varsity players graduate to the
varsity and climax their senior year with a hard
experience much handshaking and patting ot the
back and righttully so However there seems to
oe one person who assumes a minor role at the
time and tinds content in taking a back seat and
marvelling at the results when really he should be
right in the midst ot all congratulations We speak
ot the junior varsity coach Mr l-lub Rupert l-l
is the talent scout ot basketball in Ford City There
have been more boys making good at colleges
playing basketball in the last 5 or 6 years than ever
betore proving they were righttully discovered and
properly trained Lets look at the years work
Last tall a band ot youngsters turned out tor
basketball representative ot some 50 or 60 ditter
IUHIOI Varsl
Just a bunch ot little kids who were having
a lot ot tun kicking and throwing a tootball around'
But wait under the caretul supervision ot Mr
Placek these same little kids will grow mentally
as well as physically to represent our school very
notably in the gridiron game The lunior tootballers
were a group consisting mainly ot seventh and
eighth graders but their spirit and p actice routine
ent talents Within a month the squad was cut per
haps to about 25 divided into A and B groups
chosen The result one ot the tinest lunior varsity
teams in the last 5 years and this sounds a welcome
note tor tuture varsities ln a schedule ot I8 games
the Iayvees won Il and lost 7 They amassed a
total ot 436 points to 400 tor opponents and were
approximately one point better per game than their
opponents a sizeable margin considering the cali
bre ot teams the layvees met Throughout the
year the brunt ot the scoring was carried by the
guards and aided very closely by the torwards
Near the end ot the season tour ot the Iunior
varsity members were called upon to practice with
the varsity in preparation tor next year so look out
tor them to go to town
ty Football
was so interesting that tans gave them more atten
tion than they did the varsity
Considering the opposition lack ot experience
and ohysical smallness t is not hard to see why
these youngsters nnet great reversals in a two game
schedule l-lowever that is unimportant Next tall
the boys will demonstrate the improvement in their
play as a result ot worthy experience

This years Junior class play was an arrislic success. The characfers were
erifcienlly chosen, and lived up 'ro Their nolices. The stage looked exlremeiy well wi'n
irs new selling. and E+ do much +o s+ar+ The casl off on The ,ight Tool.
From a Financial sfandpoint, all records were broken. Tne school mafinee had The
largesl allenoance on record, The audiforfum lferally bulged. The evening perform'
ance broke records of recenl years.
The Junior class and Their sponsors are lo be congralulaled on 'rheir success. They
